Wishes in the Drought

Walking through this desert land,
Reaching high its dragons breath,
Burning away our lovely Rain,
This land where nothing changes-
still and stagnant, and ever still,
Shifting like a snake beneath me.

Below are my weary feet,
Bare burned and baked by the sun.
Not a cloud is my friend,
And my feet are moist?
Oh, it's only from my dusty tears,
That never cease to fall.

Dear Rain won't you come?
Be a friend for me,
And turn this sand, this dusty land
Of old bones and death,
Turn this all away from me.
Into pleasant greens.

Oh what a day, Oh glory day!
Joyful is your tears,
To rest upon my weary self,
And move away this Drought,
Whose searing hand
Has stiffed all my heart away-
So painful was his touch.

Move through me,
Oh gentle water!
Every where you touch is healed!
At long last I can move again,
My feet can finally feel;
The soft ground beneath my toes,
Breathing in time with the wind.

How I thank you, lovely Rain,
For washing all the dirt away.
