Just The Way It Is

Am I but a creature of habit
had to ask myself
as I strolled down the corridors
of Deep Underground Poetry

For it has come to my attention
that ninety percent of what I read from poets I follow
becomes something I like

I am hoping it isn't just my love of the writer
but rather the merit of the work
that releases my praise and high regard
sincere critique my goal

But my real challenge as I now understand
is to look at the comments desired
"friendly" may not be the same as "honest"
would my ignorance taint review of what I admired?

What I do know is the range of my affections
hit many categories
only one in which the eloquence is hard for me to see

There are some writers who dazzle
so much in poetry's command
that I am reluctant to even present a word
a much greater respect they command

For I admit that I don't read the classics in poetry
every day or even every other week
the modern day poets here are more intriguing
command of ancients isn't what I seek

And some of my responses are based in feelings
not laced in logic and reason
like the arrival of birds chirping
just happens to be that season

So if my comments are troublesome
don't even worry I will plead
for epic examinations of words
is not where my words have their seeds
