Rebellion

Being a dad to a teen age daughter
It oughta be a doddle
For she’s been obeying me  since
Before she could even toddle
Now sixteen years later
She’s getting out of hand
Won’t take part in anything
We her parents planned

For instance not too long ago
She came strutting down the hall
Except for too much makeup
She wore three fifths of bugger-all
You’re not going out like that me girl
Go cover up yer bits
She said I was old fashioned
And was getting on her tits

All the girls go out like this
You really cramp my style
Then she shot out through the door
Calling "see you in a while"
I went to ask her mother
Am I such an old spoil sport
Her top is too revealing
And her skirt looks far too short

That’s girls today her mother said
She knows what she’s about
We’ve brought her up a good girl
So I don’t have any doubt
She’ll rebel just like I did
And drive her father mad
So she’ll strut and pose a bit
But won’t do anything bad

So now I tell her that I love her
As she goes through the door
And here’s an extra tenner love
Of her I do implore
Please darling take a taxi home
Stick tightly to your friends my dear
Never go off on your own

She kisses me “yes daddy”
Then she’s off down the town
When it comes to drugs and alcohol
She’s never let us down
We brought her the best we know
To the values we hold true
It’s time we started letting go
What else can a parent do?
