The wise know to let go...
The burden of morality
is a heavy soul,
weighed down
by minute transgressions
those of less moral
and more wise dispositions
know to forgive.
To endeavor to tell the truth,
whole and nothing else,
often flies in the face
of kindness;
a choice needing to be made
between the stomach aching,
ulcer crippling pain
of dishonesty,
and the lesser guilt
of causing someone sadness.
The decision is made
and the truth avoided;
another's peace of mind
always more weighty
than self torment.
Constant monitoring
of every choice
and every thought
causes every choice
to be over thought,
the smallest decision
linked to moral degradation.
The thoughts
twist in on themselves
into a grotesque ouroboros;
the effort put in
proves high moral standing,
while thinking it,
selfishness, pride,
proves low.
Add others
and the battle shifts
to one between being
accepting and allowing
of evils in the world
and the constant struggle
to maintain a nonjudgmental
outlook.
Other people lie;
if dishonesty is immoral,
if the mere thought
of lying
sends a moral person
into a fit
of recriminating thoughts,
then it stands to reason
that other people
are immoral.
It also stands to reason
that the person
who chooses honesty
is more moral,
is better,
than those who lie.
The spark of judgement,
the taint
of a haughty thought
slams to the ground
any thoughts
of superiority.
The inevitable wishing
to do away
with all of it,
to live guilt free
off the morality
of the masses,
also proves low standing,
weakness.
The burden of morality,
the burden
of caring too much,
the burden
of being unable to compromise,
is a soul so heavy
so as to be incapacitating.
The wise know to let go.
