Time's Come Due

Billy Dunn smashed his motor bike
On that curve down Holiday Hill
On his way to a moonlight hike
Where he’d keep Jade warm from the chill

Jade drank beer in the parking lot
With some guys who knew Billy well
No way in hell Billy forgot
Reassuring her as night fell

Chorus
And when the sun comes up
If he’s still not around
We’ll pass around a cup
To put him in the ground
Because the only way
He’d take a pass on you
Misjudging judgment day
And now his time’s come due

Trooper came telling of a crash
Diesel burning metal and bone
Jade’s pale skin turned a blood red rash
Her heart dropping down like a stone

She took wood from the forest floor
Fashioned a cross with creeping vine
She knew her love was never more
And she swore she’d cross that same line

Repeat chorus

Bridge
The chapel fills with the drunk and numb
Who pray an hour for their luck to stay
But then they get struck blind, deaf and dumb
And waste what’s left of time anyway

Repeat chorus
