The City of the Blind

On a distant rocky mountainside
Lay a vast city hidden from eyes
Shrouded in mist above a great lake
This city never sleeps in its wake
A city of gold and jewels lining the streets
Where tales are no longer told over bed sheets
For those that travel within its lustrous wall
Never seem to return or heed any call
For at a particular point when the sun highest does shine
The mist lifts and its reflected in a blinding line
For below the lake sleeps a hungry creature
Unknown to man in its shape or form or features!
Unbeknownst are the travelers who wander into the city
That once eyes laid upon its innards, the mind loses lucidity
And the eyes become whiter than the bones the bones that line the earth
For the creature sneaks and opens its maw with great girth
Until one year the creature fell to age and great sleep
While men piled into its city for its riches like sheep
All of them falling to the riches curse
None ever able to fill but a coin purse
So the cycle continued and the city did fill
Men with no sight nor barely any will
Until eventually starved, the streets became lined
With cries and sunken faces and reaching for time
From whence did become, became the City of the Blind!
