Poet Introduction
Inspired by life, literature, love and music.
Cult of Personality
They want to lead people to the promised land
They wish to build the perfect society free of damnation
But first they must cleanse it and be rid of all that is bad
Filling people with fear that they too may be a damned nation
They speak with charisma, with certainty, with power
But the message brainwashes and turns people into slaves
The masses buy into the idea of one deranged individual
And they follow their messiah blindly even to their own graves
The deliverer stands proud there behind the podium

Happy Pride Month
It’s Happy Pride Month bitches!
It’s my birthday month so I’m celebrating that too
So be ready because I may have you in stitches
From laughter, but I can shank a skank if you want me to
I done told y’all, remove the W from Wally because I’m an ally
I pronounce my pronouns as he/him and that crazy fucker there
I’m all about equality and inclusion that’s why I keep a close eye
On any intolerant political shenanigans so haters beware
So you wanna be pro-life while there are kids who take their own lives?
Many are too scared to share how...

Forty-Nine Calendar Years on the Wall
It’s funny how time flies
As my eyes are fixed on the clocks on the walls and screens
I’m a little slower on the treadmill but I’m running up the hill
Being patient and cunning if I want to get back in those jeans
Though the music is loud in my ears
I can still hear my breathing being more evenly composed
Counting calories per minute trying to push my speed limit
Trying to meet the internal goals I set and self-proposed
And this everyday incline is a killer
Right away sweat runs down my face from the steady pace
I’m not young...

You in the Blue
There he is sitting in a sea of blue
We spotted him as he made that face
He’s waiting for them to call his name
It must’ve felt like the slowest fastest race
Here at these crossroads into adulthood
It’s a celebration and culmination of four years
Saying goodbye to friends and classmates
And carrying treasured memories of close peers
This is the first milestone of a young person’s life
Endless opportunities are waiting to be seized
And no matter what obstacles may lay ahead
I’m sure there are more things he’ll achieve

Ruth
I remember I was about eight years old
My grandmother would take us to go visit her brother
And while there, my grand uncle’s youngest daughter, Ruth
Who was thirteen would always say to me
“You have to call me aunty”
I thought she was joking
My great uncle would say that Ruth was telling the truth
I thought she was one of the cousins
But I won’t get lost with the familial details
Years later, as we all grew up
I’d see my aunt every once in a while
But I as I got older and had a family of my own
I lost touch with many of...

Last Day of School
I still remember that day like it was just yesterday
He was very excited to attend kindergarten
And there he sat on in the floor with his new classmates
With a bright smile when I snapped a quick picture
He was so little
Friday morning I left home in hurry to run my errands
When later I realized it was his last day of high school
His day had started off without any pomp and circumstance
But he was ready to celebrate with his friends and classmates
I snapped a picture of us in the car when I picked him up

We Don't Need Another Hero
The Queen is dead
She leaves a legacy behind
Check your feeds, check your threads
This is a sign of the times
All my heroes are dying
But today it just broke my heart
A powerful voice, like that of a warrior
Goes silent in somewhere into the dark
Icon
Legend
Superstar
Simply the best
You can call her all those things and much more
And if you don’t know go rolling down the river
You’ll never be the same when you come back to shore
Dwell in the melodies and harmonies
In the soulful voice of love,...

A Mother's Love
While a war was brewing in the near horizon
She made the most difficult decision of her life
Leave a young child behind to make a path
Risking it all by making such a sacrifice
And when the war began there was bloodshed
There was a great diaspora of my peoples
As my mother toiled I can only imagine the worry
Hell on earth had arrived while she was far away
See, as the war was waged in those early days
Many mothers left their homeland seeking asylum
They went in search of a future and opportunity
Then to reunite the family in...

Bloody Good Rhymes
Oh man I think my pen is bleeding
The bars I’m about to spit might be bad
I got a heavy flow so I have a feeling
I’m going to be needing me a pad
I seize the day every chance I get
To capture the moment best I can
And though photos won’t let me forget
Words have a more emotional span
I spill my guts with every verse
Whether it’s funny, sunny, sad or mad
The feelings I feel can be quite diverse
This writing phase is a lifestyle, it’s not a fad
Whether I carry a pen, a pencil, or a quill
I’ve got to express...

Tolosa
(or the Finer Things in Life)
My wife and I took a drive up the California coast
To wine country
Up to SLO
To where the rolling hills are green and full
After the rains
To cooler weather and open Pacific skies
Where vineyards seem to go on forever
It was there where we met Johnny
An older gentleman
With a jacket and hat
As he spoke about the Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs
And how the soil and climate are perfect here
He spoke about how some of the wind that comes in from the ocean
Ripens the...

Her Take - Number 48
It was ten years ago when I almost lost her
I prayed to God and the Universe to give us more time
I even made an offer, an exchange my life for hers
I just knew I wanted to be with for the rest of my life
This is her take, number forty-eight, happy and healthy
Life has a more profound meaning, I can see it in her smile
And while I try my best to make her laugh daily, gaily ;-)
God knows we’ve had our shares of difficulties and trials
But that’s what made our bond stronger, longer and solid
The depth and understanding that love doesn’t...
