POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I just wander through my mind and pick up what's lying around on any given day. I'm not a trained poet but I enjoy writing nonetheless. It seems like a good way to drain the demons in my head in a constructive manner.
And Winter Comes Again
I wasn't really sure what category to put this in so I just went with the easy one
Here I am in South Ontario
Watching trees that shine with color
And soon fall when wind will blow
Knowing soon the snow will fly again oh no
As the temperature will fall
The people close themselves away
In boring black and grey to warm themselves again
Never knowing how it hurts my eyes to see them hide themselves today
For so long
The sun won’t shine
The clouds of grey invade
Into your soul
Darkness in the day
It makes me cry for...

Steel Words
Inspired by Daybreak to Heart Ache by Calamitygin
Some things you never should say
And yet our tongues go on their way
Shouting out before our brains catch up
And take the time to shut them up
And it’s the morning that really gets to you
As you think about those things that you do
The things you say before you think them through
Just a rebel without a clue
The world comes crashing in
And your eyes feel too hot
And your skin feels too thin
Your tears scalding hot as they drip off your chin
Nothing left to do but say you’re...

Butterflies
The dance of the butterflies fills my body as the door swings open
And you appear before me like an apparition in sheer white cloth
I can see your body clearly and you make no effort to hide it
You seem to float across the room in your voluminous robes and I begin to sweat
Knowing that soon you will kiss me
I have waited so long for this moment, longer even than you know
And the wait has whetted my appetite to taste you
Your kiss is soft as an angels touch on my lips but I pull you closer to my body
And press you hard against my mouth to show my ardor
You...

The Dance of the Puppeteer
You’ve got my soul
Twisting and turning
Burning the shine off my paint
You take my heart
And bite it apart
And spit it right back in my face
I’m not superstitious
Or even delirious
But I think the Devil’s inside your soul
And it hurts to be me sometimes
When I’m thinking of you with other guys
I’m a lovesick man when I get near your heat
And you just couldn’t care less at all
You sit back and stare as I fall
And smile while I dance to your beat
You had my heart
Right from the start
Squeezing the blood out...

The Sleep (part two of a continuing saga)
And Jane lies sleeping like a child…
The sun is hours from even showing its face
He gathers all his clothes up for a silent and hasty escape
He’s had enough of this and he’s getting out now
Won’t even leave a note since she should know the reasons why
And he dresses in the hall and makes his way to his car
Starting up the engine he finally smiles as he departs
Maybe he’ll find happiness without some woman named Jane
She’s sad all the time he’s there and he can’t take any more of that game
And soon the sun will rise up in the clear blue sky...

The Sleep
Jane wakes up alone in the bright sunlight
A day she’s finally slept in and made up for all the nights of sleepless
Tossing and turning, wondering when she might fall into sleeps loving embrace
But after all of that when she finally feels rested and beautiful on this sunshiny day
Her lover has gone and she knows he won’t be back
She feels wonderful and alive and the sunshine feels brand new on her skin

A Dream That Hurts My Soul
I had a dream last night
And I know I understand
The things that happened to me
In that unconscious land
I don’t usually remember the dreams I have at all
It seems they’re lost as soon as I become aware
And are hidden in my heart or soul
Or just vanish in the air
And so I wonder why I kept this one
It confuses and disturbs me and I wish I never kept it in my mind
It was a friend I had from a long long time ago
Who deserted me along the way in my most needful time
We talked for such a long time
And he tried to say that he was...
And I know I understand
The things that happened to me
In that unconscious land
I don’t usually remember the dreams I have at all
It seems they’re lost as soon as I become aware

Coffee and CIgarettes
I wake before the dawn and I’m not too sure of sleep
My eyes are hot and lines of age are etched so deep
Upon a face that lives on smoke and coffee black
There are no dreams that I recall when I look back
And I look far away into the future bleak
No reason there for changing things which I might seek
Just endless nights and days too bright through smoky eyes
I wonder why a change might even come to one as weak as I
And in the days the words won’t come and music dies within my hands
My sharpened instruments of change are changed to things of blunted steel...
My eyes are hot and lines of age are etched so deep
Upon a face that lives on smoke and coffee black
There are no dreams that I recall when I look back

Love Songs
I never tried to write a love song
That didn’t stab you in the heart
There’s always that transgression
That always happens in the dark
And weeping eyes and yelling voices
Tear the love apart
They say write what you know
And I know it all by heart
So I write those things I’ve seen
And felt within the dark
It’s not a happy ending
It’s always kind of stark
But that’s my kind of love song
It tears your soul apart
And who’s around in the end
And who survives all they have seen
It’s the one who’s standing up
And writing...

The Gambler
Excitement tingles in the dice here in my fist
Another winning streak sings like the sirens sing
Another roll that cannot possibly go wrong
It all hinges on the way these dice will dance and spin
Can’t look Lady Luck straight in the eye
For fear of losing all I’ve won so far
I only glance to see that she’s still right here with me
Dressed up tonight as a brunette that the blind could see
I’ll ride this winning streak because this luck will never wane
I’ll take the chips I’ve won and bet them on the game
I never fear the way the dice will fall...

The Game
It’s a natural thing
To fall halfway in love
And hold yourself back just a little
So you don’t get hurt too bad when it ends
We’ve all done it before
After giving our all once before
And having to pick ourselves up
Off of the floor
Love is just a dangerous game
For the emotional are the halfway insane
Can’t ever get too comfortable it seems
Since the pieces keep moving and they’re never the same
I guess you can tell
I’ve spent my share of time down in hell
Been abused by love before
Been asked to use that door
...

Empty Words
There’s a stumbling block within my mind
Can’t find the right words now
Or sometimes words of any kind
Like a painter who is slowly going blind
And so I sift through all the words within my head
And using touch I try to find the ones that I like the best
I’m just a madman on a madman’s quest
It drives me crazy but the madman turns his eyes up and he’s dead
The ones who had a little talent once before
They’re the ones who always feel it even more
Watching pieces fall away from clutching hands down to the floor
They feel the loss so deep it tears...
Can’t find the right words now
Or sometimes words of any kind
Like a painter who is slowly going blind
And so I sift through all the words within my head
And using touch I try to find the ones that I like the best
