POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I just wander through my mind and pick up what's lying around on any given day. I'm not a trained poet but I enjoy writing nonetheless. It seems like a good way to drain the demons in my head in a constructive manner.
Innocent
Someday soon they’ll come for me to release my soul
Pump the poison in my veins and bury me where heaven knows
I’m a man without a future and a past they don’t believe
I’m a man who’s innocent in the land of guilty pleas
And that’s how it goes
That’s how it stays
Not one will interfere for me
For someone else’s crime I’ll pay
Someone died an awful death
At the madman’s sharpened blade
Someone I knew a little bit in freedom's life
And sometime soon I’ll be with her when I have paid
And people wave their useless signs
Outside...
Pump the poison in my veins and bury me where heaven knows
I’m a man without a future and a past they don’t believe
I’m a man who’s innocent in the land of guilty pleas
And that’s how it goes

The Good
Somewhere inside the house I can hear
Blue skies, nothing but blue skies
Playing on a radio
As rain pours down and wind whips the trees
The incongruity of those words
Makes me smile for some reason
And I stare out the window at the wet and windswept way
That rain will clean Toronto’s good streets at least
Wiping away all the blood spilled every year at this time
The simple beatings
The bank robberies
The stabbings and shooting deaths of innocents
The worst it seems so far,
The knifing and tossing of your pregnant wife
From a balcony...

The Failing
Every poem I write seems to rhyme
It’s a failing I have
Born of listening to seventies rock and roll
Hair bands even if you will
Loud enough to drown out my sister’s folk
And my brother’s jazz
Where every stanza went in turn
One beyond the next with words that sounded all the same
I need to shake that off and relearn the craft
Refresh my pieces
So that they aren’t so predictable
And so amusing to some
Including myself
But still
Every poem I write seems to rhyme
It’s a failing I have
Born of listening to seventies rock and roll
Hair bands even if you will
Loud enough to drown out my sister’s folk
And my brother’s jazz
Where every stanza went in turn
One beyond the next with words that sounded all the same

And so amusing to some

The RIver
Friends lost and won
On life’s river
Bring smiles and sorrow
Wonder where they all could go
When once so close
With secrets shared
Yet new secrets we give to those
Who’ve come to replace the old
New friends true and real
A host of people in the flow
Of every life in every time
We meander with the river
Docking at new friend’s doors
After pushing off from the old
We anchor only briefly
On life’s river
Bring smiles and sorrow
Wonder where they all could go
When once so close
With secrets shared
Yet new secrets we give to those
Who’ve come to replace the old
New friends true and real
A host of people in the flow
Of every life in every time
We meander with the river
Docking at new friend’s doors
After pushing off from the old

The Road Trip
Every road I take
Another crossroad ahead
And I must stand and choose
Which sadness will I ignore?
On the way to happiness
And break the blocks ahead
Many turns appear
But slowly I will find my way
To a different set of mind
I can leave that past in the past
And find the road that leads
To joy of my own kind
What a trip!
Another crossroad ahead
And I must stand and choose
Which sadness will I ignore?
On the way to happiness
And break the blocks ahead
Many turns appear
But slowly I will find my way
To a different set of mind
I can leave that past in the past
And find the road that leads
To joy of my own kind
What a trip!

The Night Mist
The night mist rolls in off the sea
Up into the low hills
To paw at my door
Like an old pet waiting to get in from the cold
Your knock is as soft as the mist
But I recognize its insistence
And open the door to my love
Damp and cool with a shiver
I hug the coldness out with my heat
And take her light coat damp with mist
She is naked and magnificent to my eyes
With body turning rosy from my fire
And her intentions written on the tips of her
That stand proud and hard
And dewy desire already hot and wet
She leads me to the bed soft with...

Rock the Time
Spend your life just trying to make it work
All the time you spend, not worth the words
Deaf ears don’t hear a thing you say
You keep on talking to her anyway
Ain’t it time you gave up on this useless task
Just gave in and you walked away
Not worth the heartache as you
Watch her sin each day
Oh you just stay and keep on trying anyway
It’s been a long time since the
Shit hit the fan
Yet you ignore the pain
It’s made you half a man
Take the time to see that you are mad as hell
And all this time you’ve spent
Is useless...

Stranger's Words
My part is done
The words are writ
I leave it now for other eyes
And wonder though I write for me
If others find it worth a damn
To love or hate is up to them
Those strangers reading a stranger’s words
I already know what I might think
But wonder what those strangers see
As they look upon the words I chose
A thing that I might never know
The words are writ
I leave it now for other eyes
And wonder though I write for me
If others find it worth a damn
To love or hate is up to them
Those strangers reading a stranger’s words
I already know what I might think
But wonder what those strangers see
As they look upon the words I chose

Birds On The WIng
Birds On The Wing
Birds fly high on the wind
Muscles ripple under skin
We can’t see
Working hard in the sky
The youngest on their first flight to a home never seen
Their muscles and minds must remember just where on the wing
Keep the heading on their place of far away on the wing
Miles away from the land beneath your feet
A place that you can’t see or imagine
So far from here
Warmth and water, food to eat
Spend their winter there after the flight
It’s the same every year when they’ve completed the...

December
December dark blown away in the night
The sky clear now
I saw the sunrise
The colors filled my heart
Warmer than it should be now
My heart awakened by the beauty
I find myself walking
Old pathways new in the bright light
And joy fills me up
December’s light
The sky clear now
I saw the sunrise
The colors filled my heart
Warmer than it should be now
My heart awakened by the beauty
I find myself walking
Old pathways new in the bright light
And joy fills me up
December’s light

The End
In the night the dreams come round
Of the end of time
Ultimate doom will come at night
With the silvery moon
The Earth rolls round as death falls from
The sudden unfriendly sky
Please kiss my lips
As it rains down on
Our vapor lights
Our silent sleeping kids
The end falls down
Of the end of time
Ultimate doom will come at night
With the silvery moon
The Earth rolls round as death falls from
The sudden unfriendly sky
Please kiss my lips
As it rains down on
Our vapor lights
Our silent sleeping kids
The end falls down
