POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I just wander through my mind and pick up what's lying around on any given day. I'm not a trained poet but I enjoy writing nonetheless. It seems like a good way to drain the demons in my head in a constructive manner.
Yesterday Was A Week Long
This is a piece for the Bipolar Roller Coaster competition
Yesterday
I thought it was yesterday but I guess I was wrong
I’m told that for the first three days I had paced the floor
Back and forth mumbling to myself and stopping in place to stare
And lacking any money I had gone out to pace the streets instead
Causing quite a stir within the little group that still cares somehow
Somehow I had ended up yelling at a cop and he gave me the walk away or spend the night at my house speech
I spent the night and paced those floors until I drove my new roomies nuts...

The End Of Their Days
The sun comes rising through the broken windows
The half dead grumble and cover up their eyes
When that burning orb drops they’ll rise themselves to find a way
To come back here to kill themselves some more again
The girls stand waiting for a ride with danger
To earn ten bucks by getting off some stranger
Risk their lives each time they open up those doors
They just don’t care because they just want more
Chasing the dragon right through the night
Make some dealer richer every time they buy
And they know deep down that soon they’re going to die...

The Life She Can't Live
It’s the solace she seeks
As she drifts off to sleep
In the day or the night she can’t care
She escapes from her life
Where she is, where she’s been
It’s a life that to live she just can't bear anymore
All the things she has done
With her hands or a gun
Leaving death when she meets someone new
With money to burn
She spends none that she’s earned
And her conscience is eating her quickly away
When she wakes to the phone that rings her out of her sleep
She knows she will meet in a bar on some street
Someone sitting alone...
As she drifts off to sleep
In the day or the night she can’t care

The New World
It’s rainy and warm on Toronto’s January day
Six degrees if you go by the Celsius way
And I wonder when the snow will fly and land up this way
I believe in the warming that they warn in the news every day
Soon enough I will have a brand new beachfront home
As New York goes for a swim from the melt north of Nome
California is drying to dust just as dry as a bone
And I wonder what happens when no food grows for home
It’s a third world coming for those left in it all
And China will own most of us when we fall
But the stacks still just pour out the shit...

The Blues
I’ve been down some these days
But as sure as the sun will rise up
I’ll be back up again
It’s a guaranteed thing that this will end for me
Just to be replaced by some manic instability
I look for what I call the middle of the road
I’m happy when I’m travelling that straight line
But the ups and the downs are a part of me
It’s something we work on but all the work in the world
Won’t fix me all that well
I know that just like I know left and right
And it’s a heartache I feel
When I turn out the light
Since I don’t know what I will face in the...

A Time To Stay A Time To Go
I guess you feel it in your heart and guts
Way before your brain has a clue what’s going on
That something good had turned to something bad
And you know it’s time to go
Sometimes you know it way before your heart can feel
That what you have left isn’t really real
That the love you shared is just a ghost
And you know it’s time to go
You’ve got to pack up your things
And hit that road before you start to stagnate
Before you've turned into that thing you hate
And you know it’s time to go
It’s never easy to break a heart that you've...

The Land Of The Living
I’ve become an invisible man
Like I’m taking space that nobody needs
Feeling like I have withered to nothing
I call out but my voice drifts away on the breeze
I think back on a life I was living
Full of color that filled up the day
Full of words people wanted to hear
Full of life people wanted to share with me
I want to be the man that I was once before
I don’t need to be anything better
Just a man with something worthwhile to say
Not living like this, the invisible way
What does it take in the end
To become you again
How long do you...
Like I’m taking space that nobody needs
Feeling like I have withered to nothing
I call out but my voice drifts away on the breeze

The Lost Hold Of Love
Love holds your heart in a desperate grip
And it tries so hard to keep that fist tight in a losing battle
But time has a way of making it loosen its hold on you both
And it leaves you behind in a grip of your own kind
With memory feeding the feelings of pain
Where once love lived
There are only memories of happiness that bring on tears
Of an incredible lack of understanding
Of the ways of love
But still I remember you in those happier times
When the grip was tight on our hearts
And through the tears I can sometimes
Manage a smile
And it tries so hard to keep that fist tight in a losing battle
But time has a way of making it loosen its hold on you both
And it leaves you behind in a grip of your own kind
With memory feeding the feelings of pain
Where once love lived
There are only memories of happiness that bring on tears
Of an incredible lack of understanding
Of the ways of love
But still I remember you in those happier times
When the grip was tight on our hearts
And through the tears I can sometimes
Manage a smile

No Words
I’ve been thinking way too much
With nothing writ
No words spilled
It makes me hurt
And drains my heart
But fingers just refuse to start
And so I sit and think my thoughts
They race through me unchecked
With curser blink and page unspoiled
I hunger that the words come near
To write oh write just anything
Instead I fill the page with tears
With nothing writ
No words spilled
It makes me hurt
And drains my heart
But fingers just refuse to start
And so I sit and think my thoughts
They race through me unchecked
With curser blink and page unspoiled
I hunger that the words come near
To write oh write just anything
Instead I fill the page with tears

The Knowing
Absolute wonder filled me that summer day
When she walked up the drive with my roommate’s girlfriend
She had a smile like the sun as it slowly rose up after a cold clear night
Dancing shyly on the horizon before blazing to life and filling the sky
And a storm cloud of dark chocolate hair that fell long in a crashing wave
She smiled again and pulled another smile out of me, my heart dancing
And I was lost for what seemed eternity
We chatted until chat turned to talk and talk to that lightest touch on my arm
It shared the news that she was losing herself just the...

Scribblings
And through it all, these days and nights
We simply scribble and search for words
Never happy with what we have wrought
We scribble over scribblings
Crossing out and writing new these simple things
Or complex if you have the heart
Our patience withers just to stay the course
And words become a blur and lose their heart
As we race or plod along the way
Through it all these nights and days
We simply scribble and search for words
Never happy with what we have wrought
We scribble over scribblings
Crossing out and writing new these simple things

In The Dark
I woke up in the dark tonight once again
The sun is hours away from that horizon stain
I can’t get a full night’s sleep anymore it seems
I don’t ever remember any happy dreams
But the nightmares come
And I remember them
Seems like good dreams all have died
Wake or sleep it’s all the same
I’ve got a screwed in backwards kind of rest
I get three hours in the night
Then I wake like a candle burning bright
Just to wait here for the light
But I’m oh so tired
Since I can’t remember when
When I go to bed tonight
I will do it...
