POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I just write.
Valentine
She blushed
red as the silky slip
barely dangling
from her small shoulders,
Her lips quivering
like flower petals
shivering in the breeze,
She leaned in
with a look
deeper than desire,
and then began to plant
her kisses all over me.
red as the silky slip
barely dangling
from her small shoulders,
Her lips quivering
like flower petals
shivering in the breeze,
She leaned in
with a look
deeper than desire,
and then began to plant
her kisses all over me.

Adventure
Dawn’s light,
Iridescent through the curtains,
Fills this quiet room
With a sense of growing wonder
Without,
Beneath the white blankets,
Spring is gently stirring,
Soon to wake,
Like a lover from night of
Ardent revelry
Steam frolics and fades
From a solitary cup of coffee,
A quiet moment to reflect
On the goodnesses of this
Brief life,
And peace long-sought
The winter sky,
Pale blue,
Adorned with restless wisps of cloud,
Beckons
And far off,
Adventure whispers, ...
Iridescent through the curtains,
Fills this quiet room
With a sense of growing wonder
Without,
Beneath the white blankets,
Spring is gently stirring,
Soon to wake,
Like a lover from night of
Ardent revelry
Steam frolics and fades
From a solitary cup of coffee,
A quiet moment to reflect
On the goodnesses of this
Brief life,
And peace long-sought
The winter sky,
Pale blue,
Adorned with restless wisps of cloud,
Beckons
And far off,
Adventure whispers, ...

Ramblings
Dreaming dreamers’ dreams
And all these little things
First chance failures
And second chance fortunes
Squandered all the same
Pictures pinned on walls
Of delicious looking dishes which
We snatch the recipes for
Like dollar bills caught up in the wind
And we seal them away in
Unused cookbooks and
Never have a taste
The sun is smiling and warm
Though it’s midwinter
And the gardens are filled with
Dirty snow and last year’s dead brambles
No buds yet on the trees
But I’m dreaming dreams of green ...
And all these little things
First chance failures
And second chance fortunes
Squandered all the same
Pictures pinned on walls
Of delicious looking dishes which
We snatch the recipes for
Like dollar bills caught up in the wind
And we seal them away in
Unused cookbooks and
Never have a taste
The sun is smiling and warm
Though it’s midwinter
And the gardens are filled with
Dirty snow and last year’s dead brambles
No buds yet on the trees
But I’m dreaming dreams of green ...

What if
I suppose,
If we
Had married,
You’d still be
Pissing me off
And
Turning me on
If we
Had married,
You’d still be
Pissing me off
And
Turning me on

After cancer
I woke up today;
I woke up:
Surprised,
Thrilled,
Terrified.
But,
By the Grace of God,
I still woke.
I woke up:
Glad;
To be able to move,
And taste,
And think,
And hum,
And simply do
Many
Of the most
Pointless and inane
Delights
That humans do;
I woke up
Angry;
Angry at the state of the world;
That wars are,
That hunger persists,
That death is;
That my coworkers
Are so swift with their words,
So frivolous with their callous...
I woke up:
Surprised,
Thrilled,
Terrified.
But,
By the Grace of God,
I still woke.
I woke up:
Glad;
To be able to move,

So frivolous with their callous...

Wish
I wish I understood nuance
And could hear through
All the riddles of this world
I wish I could see
The very black and white
Mingled in all the
Shadows of grey
I wish my mind didn’t
Dance around
All these personal death threats
I wish I didn’t fear
My own face in the mirror
I wish I didn’t fear
Peering past the window curtains
I wish my mind would be arrested,
Rather than rob me of nights
And months of sleep
I wish my heart would
Maintain a steady beat
And not...
And could hear through
All the riddles of this world
I wish I could see
The very black and white
Mingled in all the
Shadows of grey
I wish my mind didn’t
Dance around
All these personal death threats
I wish I didn’t fear
My own face in the mirror
I wish I didn’t fear

I wish my mind would be arrested,
Rather than rob me of nights
And months of sleep
I wish my heart would
Maintain a steady beat
And not...
