POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
“You write your first draft with your heart. And you rewrite with your head..; the first key to writing, is…to write; not to think.” - William Forrester, Finding Forrester
Gems
My nieces
Are star-cut gems;
My nephew,
The very stature
Of worth;
My own children;
Half-drunken dreams,
That shall know
No birth.
Are star-cut gems;
My nephew,
The very stature
Of worth;
My own children;
Half-drunken dreams,
That shall know
No birth.

After El
After El,
I spent
Years
Desperately drunk,
Begging heaven
For just
A moment more.
It never came.
But my knock
Will never
Vacate
Heaven’s door.
I spent
Years
Desperately drunk,
Begging heaven
For just
A moment more.
It never came.
But my knock
Will never
Vacate
Heaven’s door.

Pardon
Pardon my lips,
Wandering as they will,
Heedless of cloth and cover;
And pardon my tongue,
It’s a dangerous gift,
A wicked and wanton lover
Wandering as they will,
Heedless of cloth and cover;
And pardon my tongue,
It’s a dangerous gift,
A wicked and wanton lover

Rain
September rains,
In the evening,
The clouds grey,
And grumbling,
The smell of earth,
And petrichor,
With memories
Of things before.
In the evening,
The clouds grey,
And grumbling,
The smell of earth,
And petrichor,
With memories
Of things before.

Memoir
On the dewy downs
Near the old river willow,
We made love
A bold moon overhead,
And fireflies flickered
Like lovers’ candles
I learned the wicked
Tricks of my tongue
And the virtue
Of nubile breasts
And we huddled,
Shivering nude,
In our picnic blanket,
Laughing off graduation
And life beyond that night;
I go back
Sometimes,
And remember.
Near the old river willow,
We made love
A bold moon overhead,
And fireflies flickered
Like lovers’ candles
I learned the wicked
Tricks of my tongue
And the virtue
Of nubile breasts
And we huddled,
Shivering nude,
In our picnic blanket,
Laughing off graduation
And life beyond that night;
I go back
Sometimes,
And remember.

The lady
How do I explain,
Truly,
The woman?
She is a study in wonder
I know she is much
Much more
Than merely lovely
Infinitely more
Than her body
Eyes like opals
In deep water,
Reckoning nothing
Of eons gone by
She is a galaxy
Of silk and wildfire,
The caress of a soft
Springtime breeze
And the vigour of
A hurricane
Her body is more than mere
Shapeliness
Her mind is like a chisel
In the greatest craftsman’s hand
Her laughter is
The lilt of Summer...
Truly,
The woman?
She is a study in wonder
I know she is much
Much more
Than merely lovely
Infinitely more
Than her body
Eyes like opals
In deep water,
Reckoning nothing
Of eons gone by
She is a galaxy

Eros
Poignant now the lovers’ bed,
Christened hallowed ground,
Hands commit long-sought trespass,
While lips grace breast and mound,
And how they collide
In their glorious tide
Of labor and arduous sound
Christened hallowed ground,
Hands commit long-sought trespass,
While lips grace breast and mound,
And how they collide
In their glorious tide
Of labor and arduous sound

Everywhere
Her skin
Is bare,
My lips
Will
Surely dare.

My lips
Will
Surely dare.
