The ring of life
Again, we find ourselves face to face in the ring of life.
Our opposing coaches prepare us for the knockout fight.
Yours whispers the teachings of a broken home and street ethics.
Mine trains the mind to seek self destruction and feral rage.
Locked in combat while a cheering audience sets the stage.
Round one deals a body-shot to our pride's resolve.
Bobbing and weaving to avoid the full impact of uncomfortable truths
Round two intensifies with a headshot to our weakened senses.
More battered than the weather-worn bodies that house them

Bring me the shadow of the black sky's grace.
Topple this partial release of neurotransmitters.
Chemical cocktails chase the dancing dream.
Yet nightmares race ahead in my rotting head.
Like a cabbage neglected by the Gardener's broken thumb
I am numb to the frost of winter's snowy spread.
Unable to see through the mind's eye or feel through the body's hands
A lack of touch and thought make for heightened faults.
Like cracks in the Earth's foundation, the break starts at my core.
Indeed, the body fails at the mind's disjunction.
As they say,...

Life or death
Winter has come to bleach stained sheets.
Removed from the canvas of altering fates
Entwined with immovable threads that fail to change shape
Is it stagnation or progression which colors this feat?
Red rendered ritual where sanguine bonds meet
Placed firmly in the world of give or take
Bound by morphing chains where love turns to hate

Dance of the Witch
I descend from a rickety wooden shack in search of the blood moon's blessing.
Death follows as my ashen feet tread wooden meadows.
A black cloak envelops my gaunt frame.
This cursed blade of captured souls shall be my faithful messenger to the meek.
Sloping hills give way to a quaint hamlet as jagged teeth gnash in hateful fervor.
The smell of the innocent trembles as though they know of my sinful approach.
Chanting incantations, my form hovers over their homes in menacing silence.
Peering through solid structures as my victim is found
...

assimilation
Everyone dances so similarly to the inaudible tune of life’s orderings.
All around, the pseudo faces of the faceless taunt me with their carbon-copied mannerisms.
But it is I who finds myself adrift and bereft of the luxury of their bliss.
What an exalted state I could reach if my perception could seamlessly fit into that norm
For how could I push away from the norm offering protection from the storm stemming from the day I was born?
Yell into my ears and tell me I’m not being rational because it’s laughable to want to distance myself from the actual.
I’ll ignore...

Fire or Ice (Inspired by Robert Frost)
A sublime state of existence sought after by too few
Deftly eluding the hands of withered cynics, once our best and brightest
It breathes in us the teasing of an esoteric nature.
Misanthropic convolution whispers what we wish we were not, but are.
Lied to by the very virtues promising hope, oh so dear
exposing us to the vehemence of the fierce fire and numbing cold
While society lives in black-light ecstasy ...

Mankind’s fractured nature spurs the vices of ruination.
A vast expanse of intellect polluted with ancestral brutality
Legislated against by ineffectual red-stained retribution
Confined by evolution’s enduring illusion
That choice exists within every decision
Of the scorned our minds evoke airs of unfamiliarity
A volatile bio-chemistry and apathetic environment we’ve failed to comprehend
We would distance ourselves from their existence at the slightest whim.
For what self-righteous person would admit the similarities?

It began as an outwardly protruding bump so vulnerable to the uncertainties penetrating inwardly.
The ooohs, the Ahhhs, ever-present Awwws
A spectacle much like a performance at a circus
For nature was surely performing its routine bout of acrobatics

When will the influence of primal vigor be understood?
Not before our eyes unlearn the language of red-stained retribution
Not before the false notion of free-will is abandoned
Freedom to act within the confines of human evolution perpetuates the illusion

The foolish nature of a piteous existence
What feeble attempts have you in this instant?
Their eager legions await your entombment.
Seeking only to spite your bemusement
A demise meted with unending suffering
Your final breath an inaudible uttering
Therein lies no reprieve of eternal anguish.
Its voice beckons your soul to languish.
Seemingly a dream a quick snap back
Far too late nightmarish fade to black

Disporting life's variety so skillful the actor
Misgiving's mires they're hardly a factor
With tempered fingers do you render melodious scores.
Depth exalted beyond the deepest lore
Transcendentalism humbly serves thee.
Quite truthfully the antithesis of maladies and enmity
Your mastery leashes the world entire
Dash hither and thither constructing rich empire.

hypothermic nightmare
Cold winter air
Locked in despair
Night quickly approaches
unseen horror slowly encroaches
Hypothermia sets in
fear creeps from within
Bodily functions frozen solid
Vision left completely blotted
White noise all around
no reprieve to the onslaught of sound
Distant screams of terror arise
Oblivion washes over my cries
Morning never seen again
Death takes its chilling win
Locked in despair
Night quickly approaches
unseen horror slowly encroaches
Hypothermia sets in
fear creeps from within
