The House on the Hill
There is a house on the hilltop
just above the east cove
whose lights are seen by all
travelers at sea and settlers below
in admiration and insecurity
every eye esteems
the house on the hill.
There is a house on the hilltop
with a heavy-locked door
whose path trails green and thin
a garden overgrown and windows weary
a moat of metal keeps wanderers at bay
they dare not disturb
the house on the hill.
There is a house on the hilltop
drowning above the sea
with walls thick and barren
hallow rooms...

Nights of transgression-
a moth to Love's desire;
man alone feels none.

I will wait for you.
I have made a choice,
though not of recent-
a promise from
a time or two;
I will wait for you.
To withdraw my heart-
deny my nature,
and let it sing
a well-known tune;
I will wait for you.
Until the nights are short,
the days no less,
and we sing together
in the dream of June;
I will wait for you.

There is a stranger,
There is a stranger,
at my door.
A gentle tapping, tapping;
With force to pin me
to my floor.
I've heard this stranger,
a time before.
I lie and listen-
tapping, still.
Never before have I
opened that door.
I dread this stranger,
all the more.
I think not,
I am not-
I do not know.
For though my light was off,
Love,
has found my home.
at my door.

Funny thing, a window-
Funny thing, a window-
The gate between thought
and feeling;
To see a life that could
be lived-
Wandering, unaware of its
being.
To be on the outside
dwelling in,
Is no less than an honest
sin.

I fear to never know pain.
