POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I be an internationally acclaimed author of poetry, short stories and a novel.
Roses
Who does not know
A woman is a rose
At which you must stare
And handle with care
Lest the hurt you bear.
What manner of heart
Will not stop and stare
At the sweet part
Of which he must beware
Or be aware
Who does not know
How it starts and grows
And how suddenly it bends
And ends
With no option to amend.

What manner of heart
Will not stop and stare

Of which he must beware
Or be aware

And how suddenly it bends
And ends

So Clear
For long now
I have been
Wondering how
Is it things seem
So clear
Yet none sees
Or is aware.

Is it things seem
So clear
Yet none sees
Or is aware.

Come April
Our play will be showing
In April for sure.
It is titled ‘Mago mago’
Starring in our April play are :
The lucky Dr Gebele
(no pun or apropos intended)
Having incumbency
And southern sentiment
On his side;
The wealthy Alhaji Utaki
(who claims to have earned
every kobo of his monies)
Hanging on party policy
And northern consensus;
There is that retired General
Warming up at one corner.
All he has is good name.
And other minor characters
As well as the laughing god.
My people,
Sore battered...

Elusive Man
I'm not the one
You knew
Not the one
You know.
I'm the man
You will never
Really truly know.
The Oceans... sun,
Moon... Mars.
Oh incomprehensible.
Man cannot be held
In mere words.
You only thought
You knew me.
Cast your judgement
On me
Let me laugh
At your foolery.
Call me stupid
So I can laugh even longer.
You knew
Not the one
You know.
I'm the man

BLOOD
From the restive
And riverine terrains
Of Okorenkoko
And Oghulagha
To the religious
And Saharaic sands
Of Sokoto
And Daura.
From those
Hidden bunkers
In the East
To the great rocks
Of Olumo and Idanre
On the other side…
And round about
Is our country soiled.
Soiled with the flow
Of fresh red blood.
We spill too much.
The bloody altar of crises
Is growing redder and redder
Many barrels of blood
Cannot appease her.
The gods of illiteracy is thirsty,
Longing for...

TRANSITION
The sun holding stubbornly
To the even sky
Like an unwanted regime
That wants to preside for
life.
The big round gold
Is spectacular to behold
After his compulsory
Race to the west
Where he pauses to rest
And the moon is up in the east
Waiting with untold calm and ease
Without any word,
For the sun to leave
The sun is a monarch
Majestic and bold
In a sudden slowness
He changes his gold
Into a mighty orange
Which again changes
Into blood
And then to fire.
Blood and fire

Let's Love
Elemental love making
The sea drowns
Talk less of
The hungry ocean.
I would rather
Love you
I would be safer.

Talk less of
The hungry ocean.
I would rather
Love you
I would be safer.

Sanity
Let me drift
Let me float away
As if on
Powders and grass
Our sanity is madness
Ask a psychiatrist.

Our sanity is madness
Ask a psychiatrist.

Sixty Nine
Today makes me 69.
69 days on this site.
Many weeks
From this,
I will be 69 weeks old.
And in months
To come, I will be
69 months old
On this site.
As for 69 years,
I pray we all stay
Till then.
All this talk about 69
Has got me thinking
I must do the 69
At home tonight.
69 days on this site.
Many weeks
From this,
I will be 69 weeks old.
And in months

WHO CARES
The river runs from our hearts
Through the busy streets;
We see not its clear impurity.
It is carrying venoms
From us through the crowd.
But who cares.
Crippled and naked today
Dreaming how we sucked
Air from the flat breast
Of our mothers yesterday.
And of tomorrow
How we will be laid.
The river carries thesematters
But who really cares.
The tortured minds
Of a million young ones
Running with hard grass
And powders.
The river runs clear
But who cares.
There would have been
Enough milk
If...

WOMAN OF THE SAHARA
Born into a life
Strongly built with the bricks
Of customs and religion.
Barricaded inside those walls
From the beautiful colourful world.
Growing within those walls,
Eating Tuwo and Miyan Toushe
With your beautiful long fingers
Until you are married
Away without your consent.
Beautiful like a goddess
But locked up again in high walls
In your husband’s compound again
Buried away in marriage
To produce children only.
There is a smile on your face
Woman of the Sahara
But there is a suppressed...

BLAZING TRUTH
I have looked at the sun
And they say who dares
To look at the sun.
I have looked at the sun in
The eye one dusk
When his gaze was divided
Between our world and that
He was falling.
I have looked at the sun
In the eye
And felt the tingling
Of a beautiful virgin
Untouched by man
When butterflies fluttered by
In my tummy.
All the fires of the world
Could not release such glow
And the energy between us
Was stronger than
The force of a god
Setting my spirit ablaze.
Now my soul is glowing...
And they say who dares
To look at the sun.
I have looked at the sun in
The eye one dusk
When his gaze was divided
Between our world and that
He was falling.
I have looked at the sun
In the eye
And felt the tingling
