POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Remember
I couldn't help but close my eyes when I saw you
I needed to remember
Remember what you looked like in my ancient memories of yesterday
Before the stitches and the tears
Back when you were ugly to me
Before I could see the pain in your eyes, every single time your lungs tried to function
You were just my annoying older sister
We had no thoughts of uncontrolled accidents with the power to take our lives
I wanted to remember you, just for a second, in the way you used to be
Back before I knew how much I loved you
I needed to remember
Remember what you looked like in my ancient memories of yesterday
Before the stitches and the tears
Back when you were ugly to me
Before I could see the pain in your eyes, every single time your lungs tried to function
You were just my annoying older sister
We had no thoughts of uncontrolled accidents with the power to take our lives
I wanted to remember you, just for a second, in the way you used to be
Back before I knew how much I loved you

Have You Ever
Have you ever
Used the shower to itch your back
Jumped in a mud puddle to splash somebody else
Cried at pain you can’t feel
Yelled at somebody you love
Pretended you don’t care
Made up your own curse
Have you ever
Wanted to kiss a puppy’s nose
Done just that
Stared singing in the middle of a crowd
Or wanted to
Instinctively scrunched your nose in disgust
And regretted it
Have you ever
Dreamed of love
Asked a stupid question
Ignored somebody you’ve been dying to talk to
Looked at your reflections and said ...

Sunrise (a work in progress)
Beautiful sunrise
How happy you make me
I could turn around and share you with my companion
Say “oh my, isn’t that pretty?”
Even though I can tell by her open draw bridge, that she sees what I do
So I stay silent,
Pretending that the only reason you rose today was to lighten my eyes
And pull them away from the dark side of the moon
You are here for nobody else
Such a selfish desire: having you to myself
I am sure it must lead to the loss of heaven’s wonders
Is it fair to assume it is wrong to keep the picture of glorious colors in the...

That's Not Me
I’m a happy girl,
I tell jokes and cheer people up when they’re down
But, sometimes, I’m not me
Sometimes, I cry into my pillow
And stare at the scars on my left arm
I try to be happy
But I’m just not
I could call a friend, and talk to them, ask for help
They owe it to me, after all the times I’ve helped them
But, I don’t
That would mean introducing them to a strange girl I sometimes am
I just can't do that, because
That's not me
So I sit alone and let her take me over
And in the morning,
I wash my bloody night gown

Waiting for the chance to cry
People talk about it all the time
That mesmerizing, invading emotion
When your thoughts are planning ways to talk to him, even if it’s just to say “hi”
Dreaming he might possibly care, just the tiniest bit
Wanting him to see you, while hoping his eyes miss you
Walking past him at lunch to “get a napkin”
Throwing away your giant pile of napkins when lunch is over and you’ve gone unnoticed yet again
Writing notes of declaration, throwing them away and starting again
Finally creating the perfect note, the one that says it all and throwing it away anyway ...

His Stare
Cold.
So cold, I can’t feel the tears upon my cheek
Painless.
So painless it makes me weak
That’s His stare
Denying.
So denying, it makes me feel wrong
Silent.
So silent, I can’t ever feel strong
The stare with the power to make me smile
Or cause my tears
That’s his stare
So cold, I can’t feel the tears upon my cheek
Painless.
So painless it makes me weak

The Woods
Deep in the dark, dark woods
What will you find when you look?
Will you see a dark, lonely place?
A place where the only life is evil
A place you would never visit and die if you did
Or will you see an enchanted place?
Full of chirping birds and musically crunching leaves
Where above you is a stained glass window made by the trees
And below you is a carpet of wildflowers
Deep in the dark, dark stranger
What will you find if you look?
What will you find when you look?
Will you see a dark, lonely place?
A place where the only life is evil
A place you would never visit and die if you did
Or will you see an enchanted place?

What You've Always Been
My tears wet the tissue
From the box on the table
Decorated with curving lines and rough stained wood
We bought it at a garage sale
And giggled together as we lifted it into the back of my mom’s red minivan
I tripped on a stick and almost dropped it
But you saved it
You’ve always been strong that way
And that table
It sits on our baby blue carpeting
“It’s pretty” you said
“It’ll work for now” was my master reply
I complained for weeks after we moved in
You put up with me
You’ve always been patient that way
And that carpet...

Lie To Me
I said goodbye, but I refused to let go
So instead, I kissed your cheek and held on tight
I knew this day would come, it just came way too fast
The day you realized the world held more than a small town girl
With no real plans
So now you're leaving and I can’t stop you
At least I’ll have one more night
To hold you
To know you
To be yours
I’ll give you my childhood
Everything I’ve ever known
Take it, and lose it within those university walls
Just don’t tell me you forgot what we had
Don’t take away all hope of love
Keep...

Dreams of Love
The young widow sits under a willow tree
Branches reaching down, caressing the ground and touching her lonely cheek, whispering a secret in her ear
The soft grass she sits upon, being watered by her mournful tears
Letting the liquid seep into the ground, praying it will meet her husband's sleeping soul
Her hands run over the decorated stone, a sign of all she had and all she lost
As the pain becomes too much, she realizes how pathetic she is
Crying over a man, as she promised she would never do
She lets the tears fall and beats the ground with her fists ...
