my cap
I have been wearing my cap for about ten years.
Call it a cap instead of a hat
because I worked at an embroidery shop when i got it.
Worked for a man named Bill.
Seventy something, fourth in a line of crackers proper.
Bill knew that cordage, knots, and their know how
stemmed back to the original days of the noble guilds.
Knowing the correct phrasing was important to him.
Thread instead of string and so on.
It was a low paying gig
but my interest in any kind of "straight" life was even lower.
Worked there a few months,...

heavy meddle
literal translations are incapacitated by nuance
a mercurial film filtering forever inward
outwards debris collected as communication
closest to the bristles wins
without winding around an isolated strand
where quicksilver sand asphyxiates singularity
but must stand each on end, sneaking past
spread thinner than metallic spraypaint bubbles
rusting out on the bumper of a Mack truck
microscopic iron filings embedding themselves
into the skin of the space before the cement
compassionate intuition convoys the audio
as the...

Must be May
it must be May
everything's become malleable again
my summer on, through August
is an electrified peyote button stitch
too ecstatic in happening to be held
it is May, nine thirty in the morning
on its fourth day
I didn't know I still believed in ecstasy
hadn't the foggiest notion
that it could be exponentially expanded
through patience
this last winter was one of the worst on record
I made it through in a one foot in front of the other sorta way
an amazingly big...

Archimedes' shrubbery
Finally fitting in.
I'm just like every other yutz
stuffing leaves into brown bags
bright'n-early on a sunday morning
getting dirty on my days off.
Finally feeling it.
There's something innate about tilling soil
that makes the sun scrape across the sky
in a more seamless way.
Going to grow some of the stuff we eat
at least act like I'm alive.
Only prior experience was propagating certain green plants
in my bedroom closet as a kid, and same as that flowers aroma
reunites a...

one hundred ounces
Had an extra thirteen bucks and it's sixty some degrees
after four months of the hardest winter I've ever seen.
Bought a pouch of tobacco, the good shit, and four
twentyfive ounce cans of beer, the not so good shit.
It's three fortythree in the afternoon, and the dividends
from the "best to prepared"s are paying off.
The backporch is clear, and the wooden rocker likes its space.
Cleaned the basement, our bedrooms, shed, kitchen, dining room;
did the yardwork and at least started rebuilding the things that need it.
My best buddy lit off...

white washed
The young man in front of me is drawing.
It's friday night and we're at a bookstore,
I'm happy to see that some kids
still know how to party.
There are a few groups of girls, his age,
drinking double whipped caramel coffee concoctions;
each with an arm next to a designer bag
that costs another households monthly groceries,
and the other in early stages of symbiotic evolution,
holding firm to their cellphones.
They all wear black yoga pants;
proof that the angels that fell
should be the first to be thanked.

best to be prepared
not sayin' I give a genuinely grateful
and correctly full fuck yet
but can't quite say that I don't
best to be prepared
act as if it's going to happen
must not be too far off
the days go by
and the sleep seems earned
working hard
even if it isn't paying much
dig holes to fill hours
wasn't sure why a few weeks back
and the snake oil ain't exactly steel
but hot damn if the yard don't look right
shedcleaned gardendug fencebackupped

butterfly affect
butterflies are passing expressions
of extravagant beauty
entire life times
displayed within a single
twenty four hour period
we wonderfully stumble
to comprehend the energy expended
simply to adorn the winds in splendid
for such a short span of time
serendipitous scale and perspective
allow us this outside observation
letting us see a mercurial crystal
of flaked infinity
held against the inside of an open palm
but it is our own immersion...

the long walk back
overcomplicated it already
thought I had a friend to confide in
tell the muddy personals to
without it being held against me
thought that I was shown the ultrasound
of our boy due in August
to open up healthier channels
but the machinery always gets so gummed up
thought I could take the train
having known the tracks so well
but, a hearty
"get over yourself, kid"
the bigger other says
"tie them shoes even tighter
and get to stepping" ...

forget me not
two few years before my second score
and have been sufficiently bounced off life
enough to fully appreciate the impression
that i haven't yet put a dent into the big bitch
tried to let the ol' girl down easy
told her that she'd move on swiftly
that many other suitors would pursue her
she said she has never heard of me
humble comes at the head of a hammer
dispelling the delusions of artists
assuming roles of worthy adversary
was certain that she stayed at home
waiting by the phone for my call
rereading the...

time unwinds and she flicks minutes
curiosity killed immersion
observation the smoking gun
cats down under the stars
counting currents from the fence post
the number a name unutterable
history entire is an erection
its tantric reserve a singularity
retroactively arousing orgasmic existence
we created the outside in our image
with the alien laying its larvae in line, but
weighted specifics impress upon the pock marked face of god
more than physics
more than philosophy
more than poetry
is the smile that sits between her expression ...

scourged sand dunes
she has always loved me
but an elusive cowardice
loosens what's held of that place
and i will fall through
appointing responsibility to clenched fists
aimed to pound out the winds
that are always angry
she is not like life
realizing romance in want
she demands answers
which could never be met
again she asks on these winds
that are always angry
to erode the formed
even when erected for her
i have always loved her
but confuse the tenacity
in consistently starting over
for an anwer
that would...
