POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Poet, nature lover and artist. I mainly write in rhyme.
Joylyn
I finally like my name now
for many years I thought it was so strange
and maybe I should change
but I never could quite do it
so many names are the same.
Most people said it was beautiful
but some didn't like it at all
many have tried to shorten it
but it's just two little words that's all.
Put together to make one
no simpler could it be.
But many like to make it difficult
oh, pronouncing it is so hard you see.
It's simply said the way it looks
please stop trying to make it so damn tough
but people are...

Flying Pigs
If pigs could really fly
would they have angel wings
that glittered in the sun.
Would they live in the heavens
on fluffy white clouds
surrounded by brilliant blue skies above.
Would they snort sweet songs of love
waiting for more pigs to come
heaven would be quite strange if pigs could fly like doves.

Winter Queen
Winter white of my Queen’s desire the hunter of the night has come. She nods to me to let him in, and I desire nothing more. Upon his back he carries the skins and bones of coyote hunted in the darkness of the forest pines, while the bear is left to sleep beneath the stones and roots, intertwined. He lays them upon the alter along with many dried, white petals of datura blossoms and sets them to flames of orange. Their calming scent so tenderly seductive but without any warmth in winter’s crisp, cool air. I breathe in deeply, hoping she is unaware of the dreams the smoke and flames whisper to...

Rabbit in the Mist
Kissed by the mist
dark rabbit of my soul
the deer have come to play
you had better stay away.
Your back furry and black
you almost always pay
escape you will again
your luck it never fades.
But just for one more day
oh please come back my way
kissed by the mist
dark rabbit soul of mine.

What's For Lunch
Cow tongue is the special.
What is that you do say?
Well, they cut the tongue out of the cow
see I have some on display.
How would you like your cow's tongue
maybe lightly grilled
or might we fry it up for you
along with onions and dill.
Smear it with a little mustard
lettuce and tomato on the side
maybe with some ketchup and mayo
would you like a side of fries?
Served up fresh daily
every morning here by 9:00.
Oh your going to love it
just give it a little try!

The Joy They Bring
Hearing the voices of my children
the hugs and smiles they give
their willingness to be there in my older age
being together during the holidays
these things bring me more joy than I can say
with the turning of every page.

Shadow Me
Never disconnected
always staying close to me
shadowing me like a child
born side by side
stuck to me like glue
as peanut butter to a spoon.
My shadow staying close
never leaving me behind
sharing in my life
following my every trail
tip toeing through life’s maze
this companion I know so well.

Picking Up the Pieces
He tore my heart apart
no real love there had ever been
ripped it into a million little pieces
and scattered it to the wind.
Never having any feelings
not one teeny tiny shred of decency
he brought my world down
crashing to my knees.
But then you came along
from out of nowhere it would seem
picking up those pieces
and filling in my empty void.
Asking me to marry you
wanting me by your side
it’s been forty years together now
and it’s been a beautiful ride.

Winter Rabbit
It's not Monday,
but it sure feels like one.
The rabbit that lives in the log pile
hasn't come out in days.
He hates the cold, the wind, the snow
I don't blame him for his ways.
I've been throwing food around the entrance
it's gone so I know he's still there.
The waterpipes were frozen this morning
and woodsmoke fills the air.
It's only two degrees outside
and the sun is shining here.
but it sure feels like one.

Texting a Cousin
Hello, I’m your cousin
and I am looking for your dad.
I’m not sure if this is your number
but it’s the only one I had.
I’m really beginning to wonder
but I think I’ll give it a try.
And if you do not answer
I'll know the reason why.
I’m just trying to reach my uncle
but I'm not sure who I’m talking too.
Hope you have a good day
maybe we'll meet someday soon.

Death
She said, "Please come lay with me
I feel death is coming near
and if you are next to me
maybe death I will not fear."
He laid down by her side
gently pulling her next to him
"For you I would do anything," he said
tears filling his eyes to the brim.
As he pressed his body close
he could hear the slowness of each breath
her heartbeat soon silent
as she peacefully succumbed to death.
