Monkey In The Zoo
that monkey in the zoo
loves to throw his poo
think that you can beat it
man, that ape can zing it
duck down on the ground
cause that chimp don’t fool around
he’ll hit you in the head
you’ll wish that you were dead
many come to tease
they always leave unpleased
after he is done
he’ll holler out in fun
he’ll ready a new packet
while you go clean your jacket
you think that he’s your friend
you’ll never tease again

he’s waiting there for you

One Last Thing
I ask of you one last thing
Bring me down to the sea before I die
My fingers are cold and bent from a life spent working with my hands
My legs are sore from years of walking on unyielding concrete
My back, bent over from carrying the burden of living, yearns to straighten once more as in my younger days
In my youth I traveled the mountains
They sang to me for a while
But their voice grew dim over time and then stopped
The winters grew grayer and more difficult to navigate
They lingered longer each year
The springs and summers grew...

unseen footsteps
lost on the forest floor
leaves bend but take no mark
names forgotten
brought by the wind
to an unseen place

I hear…go away…no way…not for you…don’t come back.
I stay…
Bodies distorted…twisted…minds in others places…eyes not seeing…tongues not working…grunts not words…spasms…smells beyond description.
I do come back…and again.
I am here.
Help with words…and with deeds…help with feeding…help with dressing…help with undressing…help with pisss…help with shit…doesn’t matter.
I am here.
Friends made…friends lost…friends lost forever…things change…new faces…things stay the same…same faces…friends move on…old friends return.
Venture out…slow at first…more and...
I stay…

Faces
If the faces were turned away
If the smiles were hidden from view
What would one think?
Normalcy
They would think normalcy
You would think normalcy
Without question
Without a doubt
Girl’s dancing and laughing
Squealing and shouting
And if they turned and the faces were no longer hidden
What would you think now?
Would you recoil seeing the faces?
The slanting lids and sometimes protruding tongues
Would you maybe take a step back?

Unwashed bodies

I often wonder what you are thinking
I do, I really do wonder
Every so often I catch that flicker in your eyes, and that’s when I know,
know you are there.
Others may doubt you,
and me.
They say you are empty, a shell,
but I just wonder.
Do you look out and laugh?
Make fun of us all when we’re not around?
Is it a game inside your head that you play on the world?
Only you know.
One day will you grow tired of the ruse,
and share everything from your years of...

I know I’m in San Francisco, but who would’ve thought.
Never in my wildest dreams.
I guess maybe I should’ve known.
Like that time when we were roller skating and that cute man pinched my ass and then winked at me.
I thought I just had a cute ass.

I’m from Chicago.
In Chicago cute men don’t pinch your ass.
