Two Stars
In the dark, navy blue sky, we are the brightest star. We are one of those binary star systems, always orbiting each other, stuck in the magnetic fields of each other, not being to stay away but not wanting to.
We burn so hot, hotter than anything else, everything else. We burn with the white kind of light that makes everything else dim in comparison. And we routinely have to give each other space in our red moods, and so we walk away, but always to come back after we realize that we can't leave, so we reunite in our blue mood.

In the West
You stand there
through the dry heat
with no cloud in sight
to threaten rain.
You sit among it
unmoved by it.
And with the pace
of rising dough
you add to yourself,
making it better,
adding and changing.
But while doing this
you let little bits
of who you were
fly off in the breeze
or you tear them down
with deliberation
as if they didn’t deserve it
—your love and loyalty.
I used to stand with you
through heat and the cold.
But I am now gone.
I left you in your place
there...

Little Green Child
Little green child,
let me love you.
I am not your mother,
But I know her
And she gave you away
to me; she knew
I needed you.
Little green child,
I’ve watched you grow
And I stand back,
Amazed; I watch
your green fingers
reach up and touch
the sun and sky.
Little green child,
a piece of my heart,
you’ll always have.
And with every petal
that becomes victim
to my negligence,
my heart breaks a little more.
Little green child,
you always teach me ...
let me love you.

To Fly
how i envy you
driving across the plain
with no plan in mind
just driving
and sleeping
and seeing
how i envy you
being brave enough
to cross oceans
alone
so alone
but free
how i envy you
feeling self-assured
walking in the terminal
i can't
i hide
afraid
this one envy
it's something
I can't shake
it's forever inside
itching to get out
more than once a year

The Changing
They said that sometimes
I’m not acting myself.
They said that I look
like I’ve lost some weight.
They said that I’ve been
really spacey and distracted.
They said that I haven’t
taken care of myself
well.
How come I haven’t noticed
all the things they’ve said?
How come I feel that I’ve been
pretty reflective lately?
How come my thoughts
feel like my own again?
How come I haven’t noticed
the changes they say they see?
although,
Maybe I have
and pushed it aside,
Maybe I’m eating...

OBSERVATIONAL POEM

"Thankful"
What are you thankful for this year?"
They ask that every year.
"Oh family and friends
and of course, pumpkin pie. LOL"
Don't make me gag.
Yes, I'm thankful for that.
But I'm not some
"Live. Laugh, Love." girl.
Peppermint comes to mind--
it always does for some reason.
My fellow loose-leaf tea junkies--
They make me feel sane.
Colorful pens and blank paper--
I have to get out my crazy somehow.
Common sense and having some--
I could do with a little more but at least I have some.
Books. Books. Books. Poetry....

"You are what you eat."
Many of us have heard this saying. Maybe as a taunt or a way for parents to get you to stop eating Cheeto puffs.
But how could I possibly turn into a pumpkin pie if I ate three slices of it?
I think it is more than this. A recent rom-com I read described the main female character wanting to just eat up the face of her boyfriend. This may seem unrelated and cliche, but is realistic for the way one feels when they feel so much love for one thing. A similar situation occurs when one's grandparent pinches your cheeks and says, "I could just gobble you up whole!" They don't mean...
