POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
writing poetry doesn't make me a poet, who hasn't written poetry at some time or other...
should I seem distant...
I can not tell if I recall, or if
I have read, or seen, or heard -
my past is a fiction in which, very often,
I'm not even involved...

you think I'm looking good, but...
I can never keep my shirt clean,
you know..? I mean I put one on today -
and this morning it was all shiny white,
but now it's more Dorian Gray...

earlier than usual...
it was a nice morning
the sun shone
through the windows
but I didn't mind...

all that was in the fridge
was a can of lager

I was going out of my mind with you...
and yet after I said
it was over you asked me for
what reason
I had left...
it was over you asked me for
what reason
I had left...

in the background...
when I go out,
whether it's
to the pub,
or on a train,
or for a walk along
the street,
I always seem to
come across
people with a view
of the world,
a view on
everything...
people who
always appear to be
a little ahead
of me,
somehow,
or else standing
in front
of me...
which may
of course
quite possibly explain
why I fail to see
anything
as clearly
as they
do...

bloody hell, mate, we're the only ones on the train...
he said I'm sorry sir, there are
plenty of empty seats in the carriage
but this one happens
to be reserved -
I said I thought
it was quiet...

that's all...
there was a stall in the market
that I hadn't noticed before -
hardly surprising, really -
it wasn't much of a market

nature studies...
she became quieter as we
strolled along by the side
of the river and I asked her
if anything was wrong...
she said she was wondering
how come swans mate for life
and you light up a cigarette
after a couple of minutes...

love is a soft landing...
for years I've watched her
sit at the end of our bed
and roll down her tights
without banging her head...

let's not go home tonight...
it just feels different
making love in a hotel -
I don't know, maybe
it's the mattress...

The Canterbury Tales revisited...
the miller ain't happy
when the story gets out -
damn that chaucer chappie,
got it all arse about...*
* "arse about face" - back
to front...
