POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
writing poetry doesn't make me a poet, who hasn't written poetry at some time or other...
the decreasing flow ..
even aspirin couldn't assist
in the declining circulation
of money, it's ironic really,
replacing cash with plastic,
what with plastic clogging up
the sea, indeed the planet ..

rats ..
I like not rats, not
saying it is their fault but
that is where I sit
at dusk putting out
the rubbish sacks and of course
that is where one is ..

as one grows older ..
you say age is just a number
but you're wrong, it's rather a letter,
a note to self, a cry for help,
this can't go on ..

what's the odds ..
don't want
to go out
it is
cold
outside
chance
of you getting out
of bed ?
she sighs ..

there's no beauty in this ..
I look at the moon
and feel nothing but disgust
another night awake
another night without sleep ..

another night without sleep ..

after breakfast ..
we're in the café
it's early
she says so where does one go
after breakfast ?
I say the possibilities
are endless
but I think one
might find
breakfast
here ..

surely something's the same ?
yeah ok so maybe the town has changed,
I've not been back for twenty years or so.
but surely the lake and the woods remain ?
you look away, bow your head, say well, no ..

hardening of one's arteries ..
always thought
you looked vulnerable,
she says, but now you appear
positively frail,
and what I once
mistook to be honourable,
she says, doesn't seem quite so
sensitive now ..

didn't hurt ..
forget how unhygienic we were,
encrusted soap & bristles in the sink,
swilling it away with our hands,
and then wiping our hands on our shirt
before going out for a drink ..

your current problems will only increase ..
and yes, where two rivers meet
there might well be a little unrest,
a few ripples upon the surface ..
it makes one think, especially on
whether either one sees what lies
ahead beyond the estuary ..

we may occasionally argue ..
my wife generally gets her own way
I might argue
but it's seldom important enough
to make a fuss
and anyway
I love you ..

who was he ..
he was an irishman
who in the nineteenth century
helped build the railways
across britain, but
such labourers are very quickly
