dear son
Son, you are small every day
but you are on the journey up the mountain son
Today we play in puddles
slip and slide
Hide in the trees
Jump from boulder to boulder
over canyons with excitement and glee
You are at the bottom of the mountain son,
where the winds are soft
and the rain gives life to budding sprouts
we harvest in the good times
We go to sleep happy
The floods come in the night
Suddenly we lose everything but ourselves
using all the skills we learned at play
to make it to safety high...

Go Forth and Munch
Leaky Food
That is my gripe
and we all suffer frum it.
My horse, does not afflicted by this.
He eats grass.
I should do likewise.
A pound of salad, or 16 ounces, has 100 calories.
At least the leafy type. A hundred calories, why that is a fair punch of energy.
Do that twenty times a day, and you have eaten what an active grown male needs.
Salad will release its power slowly. I should spell that slowwwwwllllyyyy.
Grass is a much tougher course in a 20 course meal. Cows, Horses, and yes, the dreaded...

me when I open my refrigerator
arms outstretched holding a plate of butter
for me to take
I do,
slobbering it on my toast
leaving the package out on my table
thinking nothing of it
but this morning,
I thought I heard a rustle
and I looked at the table
nothing
except she was no longer on the package
she was kneeling on my table,
that big letter O traveled with her
like a halo
holding that plate of...

As big as they come

Legs that can kick mountain goats
Out of the way
Gentle with children

Have jack in your sight

letter to dad
Dear Reader,
my brother, dave, wrote this letter to my dad,
some time in the 1980's, I believe.
My mom and dave had taken off to England, while
everyone else stayed in Michigan.
The style of the letter is fairly innocent, although not
really jock shock and awe poetry writing of the internet era we currently live in.

at the fair.
I am writing to announce, proclaim and wish
the person we know as father, a...

Got that Old Time Religion
Scattered about the
Navaho reservation
are many cairn shrines
The Navaho
when alone
or in parties
on approaching
one of these
gathers a few twigs
of pinon or cedar
places them
on the shrine
scatters a pinch
of sacred meal upon it
And makes supplication
for that which he may
habitually need or which
the moment demands.
