A Sister's Toast
Dan and Diane,
once separate
now a pair;
joined together
on this day so fair.
Surrounded by family,
by friends,
loving hearts abound;
sharing this occasion
of commitment so sound.
To my sister, Diane, with
whom I've shared a lifetime as kin;
growing up we've had moments,
a pain in the ass you have been.
But I've loved you so dearly
the whole of my life;
so caring, so kind
- and a loving mother -
with a genius mind.
To my new brother, Dan,
who likes to...

Destiny
Cat food smeared on the wall,
dirty clothes litter the hall.
An oil slick under the bed,
a ringing telephone in my head.
If you make it all go away,
it will just come back another day.

An oil slick under the bed,
a ringing telephone in my head.
If you make it all go away,

Defiant
I stand in the middle of the cul-de-sac; barefoot on the pavement, arms reaching for the multi-hued grey sky, face turned upward with closed eyes and open mouth - silently screaming in defiance at the storm raging above my head. Large, cold raindrops pummel down upon the asphalt; so much accumulated liquid that minuscule waves are running in sheets around my feet as the water runs down the street, and cold enough against the hot blacktop to cause wisps of mist to rise in slow swirling eddies around my ankles. Bolts of lightning crisscross over my head; great arcs of searing, silvery-white...

Love Continues to Grow
On the twenty-first of June
under a hot desert sun
in a chapel of white
embraced by candlelight,
two kids embarked
on a journey unknown,
alone in the world
to start a new home.
On through the years
the two became four
plus a cat and a dog
to make it some more,
in a cozy white house
at the end of the street
with a wood picket fence,
many friends they did meet.
Time has passed
not all like a rose
but hearts have stood strong,
love continues to grow,
for ten and...

The Boy from the Moon
inspired by the song, "Cats in the Cradle" by Harry and Susan Chapin]
Cats and cradles
a silver spoon,
a disappointment
to the boy on the moon.
A baby born
it's an exciting May,
but must work right now
many a bill to pay.
Growing up
and wanting to play,
can't right now
but we will, someday.
Please, come and sit
I've something to say,
sorry, my son,
no time for delay.
Time has passed
and he's gone away,
wish he'd come home
for a while to stay.
But...

Off the Cuff Thoughts...
- A government's purpose is to protect its citizens against outside interests, not a mechanism for protecting its own.
- By not taking individual responsibility, WE are the creators of "Big Government".
- A celebrity's sudden death is not a "tragedy". What's a tragedy is the media making it such with special reports, hours of coverage, and prime-time specials. A homeless person's sudden death... crickets.
- In order to be a human being, one must first practice at being human.

Love at the Beach
small pebbles
large ones
grains of sand,
along the beach
we walk,
hand in hand.
eyes meet
lips touch
breath intertwined.
a long embrace
our hearts keep pace,
my soul yours and yours mine.
