POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have been writing poems since I was 13 years old. I have had many publications of individual poems in newspapers, magazines, electronic forums, and on radio.
sleep comes in the night
a child's nighttime reflections
“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep:
for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.”—Psalm 4:8
i wake up in a plight:
who will be gone today?
for sleep comes in the night
and steals my friends away.
he is a cunning one
—a serpent in disguise—
who, when you're all alone,
entices you with lies.
with cold and clammy hands,
he takes your breath away;
yet no one understands
who next will be his prey.
i lay me down to rest
with prayers in my heart ...

the dead, alas, must sleep
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not
any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory
of them is forgotten.—Ecclesiastes 9:5 KJV
the dead, alas, they play no golden harps,
nor care for solemn dirge or joyful song.
their appetites for comforts, once headstrong,
no anchorage finds in a silent corpse.
the dead, alas, roam no celestial sky,
like angels keeping vigil o'er the quick;
they wait not in the dark to light a wick
for loved ones seeking solace from on high.

night music
The moon's my constant mistress, /And the lowly owl my marrow;
The flaming drake and the night crow make, /Me music to my
sorrow.—Anonymous
whether it be the drone
of the watching moon
or the ostinati
of the stars that swoon,
evening finds me in the concert hall
for the debut of night's curtain call.
whether it be the tone
of wild bamboo flutes
spreading their confetti
at the end of june,
from the ocean waves, the barcarole
whispers airs my spirit to console.
whether i sip alone
of the night...

Because I could not pause for Words
After Emily Dickinson:
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/47652/because-i-could-not-stop-for-death-479
Because I could not pause for Words―
They kindly paused for me―
The Pages held but just Ourselves―
And Vibrant Poetry.
We knew no Prose―our Verses chaste
Had safely put away
Long Sentences and Paragraphs
And every wild Essay―
Verse into School where Children played
Their Nursery Rhyme Ring-Ding―
Would feed the Young and Curious Minds...

all life's amazing journeys
If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you
can’t walk, then crawl; but whatever you do, you have to keep
moving forward.”―Martian Luther King Jr.
i.
all life's amazing journeys
begin and end in silence,
some burnished in the furnace,
some silenced soon by violence.
but in between the moaning
of navel string detachment,
and last rites filled with groaning
at casket-lid attachment,

the uncompromising spirit
"You are the architect of your own future, so design your future
with uncompromising sincerity."―Debasish Mridha
not to be won by caresses,
nor to be silenced by threats;
not to be sucked in by kisses,
nor be interred by defeats;
stand i alone on this mountain,
while, all around me, the throng,
eager to dry up my fountain,
weans, of its lyrics, my song.
not to be bought by compromise,
nor be outsmarted by stealth;
not to fall blind by hypnosis,
nor stand a victim of wealth;
steady,...

boys to men
the adventures of growing up
fluting feathers float
in the kitewind overhead
boys with wicked catapult
leave the poor birds dead
fish hooks on a boat
teasing kingfish, trout, and grunt
wriggly worms the sacrifice
village to be fed
fed cows chewing cud
in the shade of guango trees
egrets eating parasites
(gnats and ticks and fleas)
drunk with bovine blood
girls defeating skipping ropes
with their vee-vap and run-out
skirts above their knees
knees and elbows bruised
boys...
