POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I play in the macabre, the erotic, the taboo.. but it's just play for the most part. I don't beat or kill people or puppies in my spare time.
Seneca
Terra cotta earth cracked in cuneiform
Spreads in patterns under pink-frosted toenails
I watch my tears fall, swirl through crevices
Back into the earth, into the beginning
Of this love, of this life
When I met you and you breathed fire into me
through stolen hot kisses, painting my body
in touch, coloring me passion
until bright hues poured onto the bed
and washed into faded white
and our sweaty palms still, interlocked,
fit yin and yang perfectly
while our bare feet scrambled across hot rock
then soft grass, and into the shimmering...

twilight
Night stars twinkle through dusk
Pierced by azure rays, eyes tear
hearts crack, bend, break
mouth opens, soundless air escapes
tears do not fall, but linger in corners
and this is not what you wanted
and you can not stop looking at the floor
I pull my sweater around my shoulders
shivering in the cold of you
absent and despondent I face this night
if I could pull the sun back up
I would stop you from leaving
But one look in your eyes
You are already gone
Just your body remains for now
Until your feet follow your soul
So...

beginning to end (tammy's metaphor challenge)
She was the cool breeze blowing
he rolled over the rocks
young stream bubbling
they meet in the mists
bodies interlocked over the rocks
exploding in midday sun
Now his gnarled arthritis hands
stem from spindle tree arms
her seafoam eyes are mindless
she's a scattered breeze blowing
alzheimer's child flows in and out of reality
his stream creaks with age, barely
eeking through the rocks
struggling to carry Charon
on their journey to the underworld
he rolled over the rocks
young stream bubbling
they meet in the mists
bodies interlocked over the rocks
exploding in midday sun
Now his gnarled arthritis hands

my perspective of Ashtoreth (Aish's Goddess challenge)
She pierced the night in incandescence
Blazing white against indigo night
All that was fierce and beautiful in womanhood
Exploded through her veins
As she burned through the sapphire colored sky
Her womb sang the song of siren
Crashed the rocks of Christianity
When Solomon strayed from grace
"Ashtoreth" spat from lips; despised,
Tossed onto dirty temple floors
What started to swirl was dust primeval
Her singing was silenced tobarely a suggestion
She was numbered among the demons
Patron saint of the seven sins
Left to lord...

first love (from first love competition)
In moonlit corridors of my memory
A dusty labyrinth of could have been
Close to where I left my regrets
He lives
His eyes were steel and my heart was in his fist
I thought it was love; Harlequin said so
I'd turn his head to happily ever after
And he'd wonder how he'd live without me
While I picked out China patterns
Watching colors dance from my diamond ring
His sock was inside out
Under my bed
I could still feel his impression
inside me
warming me inside out
But then the way he hit
The way my eye exploded then throbbed...

Strangulation
The first sound would be the crack of the hyoid bone, but only after he stopped struggling. His realization that his 115 pound wife was on top of him with her perfectly manicured hands wrapped around his brain’s only source of oxygen would take at least two of the ten seconds necessary to end his miserable life. The ridges of her fingerprints would flatten against the skin of his throat, causing bruising which would show any coroner worth his salt the obvious cause of death. The jury wouldn’t believe her to be the killer; her diminutive stature would appear no match for his hulking frame. She...

Fireflies
I haven't seen such a summer in years
So many fireflies screaming through darkness
Seemed shooting stars within my young grasp
Humidity hanging in wet sheets under clouds
Ozone scented air eased in from a distance
My chubby fingers tightened around my jar
My awkward swooping found its prey
A single insect, posterior ablaze
Two inches from my inspecting stare
As he found his plight hopeless
His beacon fell dim, buzzing slowed
My seven year old hands shook the jar
If hope couldn't inspire him, maybe fear
But my childish...
