POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Self-poetry, art, and nature are my keys to self-reflection. I enjoy implementing rhyme and imagery into my writing.
Heartbeat in My Ears
Brimming with suggestions of creativity, I close my eyes in retreat
Visions form from nothing
Back to hands placed on my forehead in prayer
For sickness to wane and for me to be myself again
To shameless tears of love turned into questions of self-worth
When I hear my name, I am sure it is because I have failed
I've lost myself
In a buzz of jealousy and bitterness
Instead of precious art, and soul, and curiosity
Who have I become?
A rushed line drawing on an unwanted scrap of paper
I retract ...

Quilted Skies
Reincarnated, a natural birth
I am peeled from the earth like the flesh of an orange from its skin
Oh, to breathe free for the first time in a while
Lungs inflated, serene
I balloon towards the heavens with the purpose of coming clean
Tears flow into heated rivers along the mountains and valleys of my cheeks and chin
The dirty remains from my resting place have been gently wiped away by dewy grass blades
I let my chest rise and fall, forcing some breaths on command even
And notice a...

What is it to be broken down, again?
Navigating with a Soul exposed
Uncorrupted, free of sin
It is the vague familiarity of having read this story from beginning to end, but losing the plot just as it twists
I am the story. I am here.
Standing in a field, with arms outstretched, I allow myself to be hugged by the encroaching, humid air
In the instant before my skin can bead with sweat, a breeze reaches out and runs its cool, spindly fingers through my hair
Unflinching, the breeze fills my nostrils and promptly steals a few of my...

The Truth
Dysfunctional, disjointed disappointment
Discreet displays disappear
Discover, uncovered disarray
An unkempt soul
Eyes pried wide open, to stare in dismay
At rest, trapped dreams memorize the inner contours of my eyes
Never permitted to dance in the light of day
Subtle twitches, signs of life
The remaining happiness slyly choked by an apathetic grip
Discounted imaginings sentenced to death
Disarm the guard who disregards the heart and upholds these walls
Disrespectful thief of joy
An interest in self-care,...

Cleanse
Seeing red, but for the better
Rose-colored glasses without lenses, a world unfiltered
Quickly, wind rushes towards, and then through me
Eager to extinguish my internal flame of stale, expired energy

August '23: The End ((Faucet))
4 months without creating
4 months full of contemplation
How will I regain concentration
How will I spark conversation
Who cares what I have to say
Who cares if they hate it
This is my haven
This is for my escaping
Enchanting skies, cloud-sketched
Enchanting skies, who's to say what's next
Turn the faucet on, smooth
Hear the hiccup and sputter of shyness
Followed by the flow of my truth
4 months full of contemplation
How will I regain concentration
How will I spark conversation
Who cares what I have to say
Who cares if they hate it
This is my haven

August '23: The Beginning ((Underneath))
Remnants of eraser shavings scattered across my paper
Subtle undoing
No lines to guide me
Starting and stopping
And failing and restarting
And stopping again
Holes scratched in my being
Pits left where words used to be
Confidence replaced with insecurity
Who can be more sure of myself than me?
Hunger for perfection
Suffocates me
Straight-jacketed curiosity
Furiously rejecting the real me
Subtle undoing
No lines to guide me
Starting and stopping
And failing and restarting
And stopping again
Holes scratched in my being
Pits left where words used to be
Confidence replaced with insecurity
Who can be more sure of myself than me?
Hunger for perfection

Poem #8: April '23 (The End)
As spring fully thrives
And magnificent flowers bloom from unassuming buds
I find my name marked across the veins of new leaves
Clouds twist themselves up in the celeste sky
Just to shy away as another long day fades into night
When accidental naps create hyper aware sleeps
Hopefully, dreams will come soon
With promises of restorative peace
And magnificent flowers bloom from unassuming buds
I find my name marked across the veins of new leaves
Clouds twist themselves up in the celeste sky
Just to shy away as another long day fades into night

Poem #7: April '23 (The Beginning)
I put in my headphones
And let these Neo-soul lyrics tether me to my childhood home
Harmonies enter my ears and penetrate my bones
Washing dishes and
Happy dancing at the sink
Music is the temporal link
With no need to escape,
I scrub the dirt away and
Let my problems run down the drain

Poem #6: March '23 (The End)
I burned myself twice, today
Here's my attempt at uncovering a meaning behind the pain:
Shiny, smooth new skin
Would expose itself to me
Pretty, distracting
But the sting and reddish tone lingered, naturally
I listened close to hear it speak to me, "Be careful with how you seek change, not every time will be this easy."
