It happened upon a mid-day stroll
As he broke is gaze with the cracks in the sidewalk
The glimmer of sunlight off her auburn hair
As if demanding his attention
Thick frame holding shaded lenses
Reflecting a fresh bouquet
She outshined them with ease
Only then to be upstaged by her smile
One that could stop a falling star in its tracks
He broke stride to the dismay of passersby
Frozen in the midst of this busy city crowd

It had been a long day
Eyes heavy and body weary

Quiet on the set
Everything’s in place
Nobody’s called action yet
People sit stiff and stare
Tension’s high
Anticipation fills the air
I don’t dare
To make a move
And risk catching glares
From everybody in the room
But who knew about this role
This part I drew
Of random unimportant dude number 2
Sits in the back
Out of focus, out of tune
While stars shine bright
And take all the good lines
While I fight
For just a little bit of camera time
Man they can’t hack it
It’s my life...

Chosen: Not by Blood
I've been so selfish. Thinking only of what losing you meant to me. It never crossed my mind what losing a father did to you. I swear it wasn't your fault. I would have kept you if I could. Maybe that's just what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.
Funny thing is, I don't. Not really. You plague my subconscious on most nights. You come and go as you see fit. How do I reach for you when there's no hand to grasp?
I guess what I missed the most is the sense of purpose you gave me. You made life make sense. If I could be your hero, what else could I possibly need?

Where Love Goes When It Dies
Can’t escape
A bitter taste
Sulfur in the morning dew
Through hazy gaze
Haunting malaise
Scorched landscape devoid of you
Emptiness
At morning’s crest
Peppers ash with falling tears
The wave of sound
Quakes dusty ground
Releasing forgotten fears
Electric air
Ghouls, nightmares
Terror reigns the darkened skies
Gelid embrace
Envelopes the place
Where love goes when it dies

Port Call
As we took our seats, amidst the tired and weary, the days events ran fresh in my mind. Though the tasks accomplished were of no particular significance, an overwhelming sense of satisfaction took me over.
I made a brief scan of our company. Drunkards trying desperately to stand steady against the sway of the vessel. People recounting stories of the day, laughing. Some sat in silence. Perhaps reflecting on life or love. The noise of the tug engines roaring as they powered through the choppy sea. All of these observations would have otherwise been dismissed as trivial on any other...

Haven't been this way in some time
Two lane back country road
Lined with trees on the brink of a fall turn
Fog begins to lift at the birth of day
The mind drifts off to the sound of air
Moving past a poorly sealed window
Back to a time held most dear
When a smile lit up the rear view mirror
The cabin filled with a sound of a child's inquisition
A quick glance to the passenger seat
Finds endearing eyes on the same page
And a face sporting an acknowledging smile

Distant virtue, crumbling disguise
Paradoxical behaviors reign
Adolescent dreams expired
Naivety, beliefs retired
Stiffled by pure disdain
This is the death of love, you see
Wounded heart, blistered lips
Deeper through the darkness slips
Unable to taste the rain
Pounding waves in an endless day

Repetitious is the refrain
You know, you'll be the death of me
