POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write rhyming verse to entertain and to spread positive ideas. My books, "Johnny McSneed and the Super Good Deed", other books in the Johnny McSneed series, and "I Think Therefore I Fee: A Lawyer's Candid Confessions" are available online.
Does It Matter If Lives Are Shattered?
The battered wives, the shattered lives,
The broken homes, the broken bones,
The families marred, the victims scarred,
The babes in wombs who will not bloom,
Young men in tombs, who died too soon,
The blood that's spilled, the people killed,
Who met their doom, from booze consumed.
The tragic scenes, the ruined dreams,
The hearts that break, the souls that ache,
The loved ones gone, the toll goes on,
When will it stop? The death toll tops,
All wars combined, and do we mind?
Does it matter lives are shattered?
Let's...

Hired Tongues: Lies, Lawyers and Limericks
A damnable lawyer named Stealth,
Had long been addicted to wealth.
With his snout in the trough,
He ripped everyone off,
In piling up pelf for himself.
There once was a lawyer named Snide,
Who was full of hot gasses inside.
His professional status,
Was made of mere flatus,
But rendered him swollen with pride.
There once was a lawyer named Dill,
Whose knowledge was virtually nil.
Though lacking in competence,
He still inspired confidence,
And I believe that he practises still.
A very daft...

Extract from Johnny McSneed Writes a Book at Top Speed
The summer vacation was finally here,
The one time of year when my diary is clear.
I was sitting at home, looking out of a window,
Just eating an apple, and watching the wind blow,
While giving some thought to what things I should do.
You may have had days when you wonder that too.
Then I noticed some books, which were stacked on a high shelf.
There were dozens of them, and I thought to myself,
“I’ve got nothing to lose by perusing a few”.
So I read one or two, without further ado.
Then I read a few...

Extract from Johnny McSneed Always Fails to Succeed
Some say there is a secret when they talk about success.
Others claim there is no tip that will guarantee progress,
That life’s a lucky dip and you have to take a guess.
I say there is a way to keep improving every day.
And it isn’t any secret. If you’re seeking to impress,
Or you wish to be a winner, then you must begin to lose,
That’s how you can excel the most at whatever thing you choose.
It’s not enough to get things right, your dreams will not take flight,
Without mistakes, but with some errors maybe they just might.

Extract from Johnny McSneed and the Super Good Deed
When problems are pressing and the chances are slim,
You can make a real difference, you just have to begin.
You might be the person who saves someone's skin,
And prevents them from meeting a fate that is grim.
Or someone who helps someone else to pull through,
There's no telling what you’ll be able to do.
If you’re seeking a meaning, or looking for purpose,
Be kind and you’ll find it, try being of some service.
And the more that you help the less fortunate out,
The less you'll be likely to have any doubt.
You...

Be Kind and You'll Find - Reasons to Stick Around
In 1979, Kenneth Nally was a 23-year-old Californian student about to start a law degree, when he took his own life after receiving counselling for depression from clergy for several years.
Nally's parents sued the clergy and their church. They alleged that telling their son to focus on reading the bible and praying as a way of recovering did not constitute reasonable care and that any referrals to mental health professionals were too little, too late.
After a decade of litigation, a majority of the Californian Supreme Court decided the clergy owed no duty of care...

May I say by way of intro
Some preliminary info?
My name is Mr Guttersneak,
When I was young I went to uni,
To have the law imparted to me.
But while I often paid attention
I can’t recall a single mention,
Of things that might be fair or just,
I never heard such things discussed.
Instead I had my head instilled,
With uninspiring legal tripe,
And then my youthful brain was filled
With ways to cheat of every type:
I majored in the ways to win,
On minor technicalities,
I studied how to fudge and blur,

Johnny McSneed and the Super Good Deed
Let's start and the start, a great place to commence,
If you're at the beginning, that's plain common sense,
Said Johnny McSneed to his cousin Michelle.
I was riding to school, and juggling as well,
About three or four balls, with my usual skill.
But when pedalling uphill I had a slight spill.
I hit the ground hard, badly skinning my knee,
I got to my feet, and tried to walk, gingerly.
Things weren't going so good, then my tale had a twist:
A motorist noticed, and she stopped to assist.
I was touched by the kindness and care she...
