POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write songs without a tune. I'm a story teller. Sometimes I write about the news, sometimes about feelings, sometimes I just write.
Singing All Alone
Pretending I'm on the phone
Talking to no one
I'll admit it's pretty lame
I'm singing all alone
Trying to find that tone
I don't know how to play this game
I'm singing all alone
Like I do everything else
Couples together in heaven
I'm alone in this hell
No one hears my voice
No one cares at all
No one
To catch me when I fall
I never wanted to spend my life alone
But here I am
Sinking like a stone
Into a whirlpool of introspection
Nothing to see but me
I'd stand in the middle of an...

Tinfoil Hats
When did America lose touch with reality?
After all we all know the Earth is flat...”
I'll get my tinfoil hat and come back on that.
Suddenly, people believe in things I know they didn't learn in school
They try to make a believer in facts, feel like a fool
I'd blame it on the schools, but half went to school with me
Why don't they see the same world I see?
Maybe it's that I never did drugs
Maybe they didn't get enough hugs
Maybe aliens filled their minds with bugs....
Damn it.. now I'm thinking like...

The Shortest Distance
The shortest distance between two points is through the mud."
~Annalee Wombles
Safe from the rain, under the canopy
Mom looked at the car, then she looked at me
A sudden downpour in the middle of the park, parking lot in a flood
Mother tells me, "Shortest distance between two points is through the mud"
Sometimes, to get to where you are going to
There's going to be obstacles, gotta push through
She told me following your dreams is never easy, always things in your way
Gotta see how bad you want it, how quickly you'll throw...

I Gotta Good One
I can't write about how women always want to change you, rearrange you, chain you
No, I'll never say a bad word about the drama, the “I can't stand your mama”, and the trauma it causes
You'll not hear me complain about the spending, or the bills never ending
I'll never complain about her getting ready for hours, and the “why don't you buy me flowers”
Nope, not gonna talk about the “pay attention to me”, instead of the AFC, or the WWE
My lips will never mouth the “Why don't you take me out”, or mock the way she pouts.
Nope, and you know why? ...

Into the Light
Dagger hidden, poison needles in her hair
No assassin needed, she's already there
The King feels safe, with only her in sight
She comes out of the shadows, and into the light
She's the only one who can bring the kingdom down
Long live the King, til he's buried in the ground
Buried in the ground, but things don't go as planned
A search for another, as agents scour the land
Nothing is ever clear with men walking the earth
Royalty dependent on a direct line of birth
An unassuming brother who's been staying out of sight
He comes...

What Do I Believe In
Do you believe in God," I was asked.
It's a complicated issue.
The easy answer is I'm an agnostic. But that's so vague. It doesn't tell what I do believe in.
I believe in possibilities. While it's possible that God exists, it's also possible he doesn't.
In the movie version of 'Angels and Demons', Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) says, "Faith is a gift I've yet to receive." It's the best way I've found to describe it.
Einstein is credited with saying, "There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as...

The World You Want To Own
Alone, on an island, in the middle of the sea
Not a soul around, only person here is me
The world is strange, had to get away
People bullying everyone, just to get their way
You want a nation of people who think just like you?
Toting a Bible, wrapped in red, white, and blue
You want a nation we left in 1955
Before most our nation's citizen were alive
You want subservient women who know their place
And people of color that know their race
Facts and science just get in the way
Ancient dogma is where you want to play ...

Two Glasses
Bottle of wine
Two glasses
Both mine
I remember
When you
Were too
Long distant memories of our relationship lost in the past
We played with forever but it never seemed to last
We were so sure of each other back when we were young
Now we're just faded memories being lamented and sung
We both started new lives after you were gone
I still wrack my brain figuring out where it all went wrong
But some mysteries in life forever remain
Like wine on a table cloth, forever leaves a stain

Scattered Dreams
Last night in a dream
The sun dropped so fast
I was blinded by the light
And the shadows it cast
Lost in the shade of mediocrity
Stuck in a crowd of idiocy
Traveling on a train trying to get off
And the engineer laughed
And began to cough
I about broke his arm
Reaching for my mask
Then I turned to him
To take him to task
What the hell did all this mean?
Was I trying to make sense out of something I'd seen?
Was my mind playing tricks on me
If I open my eyes
Will I be lost at sea?
Because...

Poetic Therapy
So, how does that make you feel?," she asked.
"How much am I paying you for this?," I replied
Writing poetry is a lot like that
With every stroke of the pen
You see where your minds at
Without any rules
Our minds are off the rails
There are no rights or wrongs
No successes or fails
Doesn't matter if it's the truth
Or a story you tell
The reader learns about you
A little bit of truth leaks as well
Our poetry is an open page
The reader learns
Our weaknesses and rage
You live your life
People can't...

Jealous of the Jones
Sitting at my dining room window
Looking at the neighbor's yard
I try not to be jealous
But boy are they making it hard
They put in a pool last month
And she's laying out in the sun
Looks like she's been working out
Looks like she's having fun
Chorus::
I'm jealous of the Jones again
I'm jealous of everything they do
They've got everything I dream of
They got that and good looks too
I'm jealous of the Jones again
It's something I try to keep at bay
It seems like they got everything
But maybe...

River of Denial
People dying
Still denying
They've got Covid
It doesn't exist they say
With their dying breath
We can add another death
We watch the hospitals fill
Till they start to spill
And they say
We've turned the corner
Deaths pile up
So do the mourners
Zealots are all in
They bought
into the spin
They are so sure
That their President
Couldn't be beat
If he doesn't win
Someone had to cheat
The river of denial
It flows pretty fast
You can fight against the current
But you...
