POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I love quirky imagery painted in sleek words. Subtle, witty, descriptive verses are my favourite. Poetic discipline and control have parts to play; as do regular visits to the gorgeous ink shop .
Promise V - Scorned
You’re a pig like the others, she declared
With fury in her eyes; a stinking hog;
Please stop it! Let him beg; her thoughts still scared
Her deeply, but she’d treat him like a dog:
A useless, mangy cur that she’d put down,
By cursing in disgust - he would not rise
Again; so she’d be free oh fuck his frown -
Why could she not be rid of him? Surprise
At the resilience of his vile vein:
She should it have cut out; a careless word
Made memories of rape seem love that came
Right back in spades to haunt her, she was spurred
To blend him in the...

Promise III - Distance
The distant hills do not blend with the sky,
But stand against it, rough, craggy and sharp;
They’re etched upon a mind that won’t comply:
A broken symmetry that echoes; part
Of you is torn away each time you see
The way they sit so close; they almost touch
The shock of your surprise; proximity
Must seem so dissonant, you have to clutch
The sill, as you stare out and take them in:
These gritty objects with harsh qualities;
And you know this is it: but drink it in -
This sense that harshness always means you’ll please
Me well enough indeed with...

Promise II - The Start
He kept her steady on his arm, while she
Allowed his gentle hands to touch her hair;
The feelings were intense; she could not be
More pleased to know the start of their affair
Would mean her breathing quick and finding how
His tongue felt in her mouth for the first time;
She wanted him – she needed him - right now
The rapid palpitations all incline
Her heart to pump out love and pledge her need
In flushing bursts; so he cannot resist
The thought that, when he touched her curls, he freed
The broody contradictions that he kissed
Away, before she...

Promise I - prelude
She runs, with all her heart, to the tall trees;
She skips across the meadow; her delight
Is tangible – she’s eating air – she sees
The stars shine out above – eternity
Seems brighter when she loses all control;
She lets exhilaration rule her roost;
When running on the grass, she’s like a foal
Who’s graceful, full of wonder; she can boost
Her own morale; she floats across the fields
And finds her destination is desire
To see things differently, as she yields
To new perspectives; and the pricks of fire,
High in the midnight sky, will play their...

Timidity
Timidity takes time to disappear,
I block off left and right; but you look down;
As if to wish away that perplexed frown:
It greets me, when I say your way is clear
Confusion's unacceptable; You steer
Me far away from shyness; you won't drown
In any scarlet flush, that's bound to crown
Embarrassment, anxiety and fear,
And this will be discovered; when you lift
My face with your cupped palm, beneath my chin
To show me what will be is bound to be;
You brush away my shyness; it's the gift

Those Unexpected Rays
The slanting rays of unexpected sun
Light up the room and light up all the tears;
These streak her face because I streaked the sum
Of all her parts for once her end appears
I have no choice – conditioned in my realm
To thrash her rear, once she’s bent; I observe
Convention, while the cedars and each elm
Stand proud outside as I stand proud – the curve
Of her bared flank does this to me each time –
Inside; I have her spread her legs, and melt
The warmest autumn fruit; it is no crime
To take advantage or caress each welt,
As I subsume her need and...

The Moment's Come
On entering the sunlit room, she turns
Herself around, then the key in the lock;
I watch her from my chair; I know she burns
Inside with such a glow, I cannot shock
Her composition yet, but this will come
In time, as she cries out, once she has walked
Across the wooden floor, silent as one
Who knows she is condemned; she will be marked
By the experience I offer her:
Sans gossip; just expressive empathy,
As she stands still, head bowed, she will concur
A life like this could bring her ecstasy;
Let all recorded history pass by
Her so imagined...

Winding Words
When his words wind around her, then joy melts
All reason that she perceived in the dark,
Before he lit her up and left such welts
Upon her psyche: each one made its mark;
As did his face, his eyes, his chest; the breath,
That breaks the silence, now her storm is done,
Is so finely attuned it can caress
Without him reaching out, she has begun
To recognise* the symptoms that will seed
Much more than all the gentle precedents
That he has used to shield her from her need,
While he so blandly, amiable and kind
Could wait until this time for words...
