POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
The experiments continue; elements combine and react; new substances form; old ideas disintegrate; lenses filter, focus and reflect; the scientist and the lab rat – indistinguishable.
Hooray for Milk!
For standing up to plate
And his cronies -
Plain and peanut butter
Then along came marmalade
And his cronies -
Plain and peanut butter
Then along came marmalade

The Cold Old Forest
Snowflakes softly falling, falling
Wind and wolves calling, calling
Pine trees pointing soaring, soaring
Brown bears snoozing snoring, snoring
Field mice scurry hiding, hiding
Wild cat chasing sliding, sliding
Fat moon smiling beaming, beaming
Winter’s breath steaming, steaming
Wind and wolves calling, calling
Pine trees pointing soaring, soaring
Brown bears snoozing snoring, snoring
Field mice scurry hiding, hiding
Wild cat chasing sliding, sliding
Fat moon smiling beaming, beaming
Winter’s breath steaming, steaming

Owed to Leonard
Let’s build a dream
And fence it in white
But leave a few gaps
To let through the night
And fence it in white
But leave a few gaps
To let through the night

Rabbit Ears
I’ll let you in
On a little secret
I like big nipples
Long and suckable
And I was wondering
As I do
What would happen?
If she was a Martian
And suddenly they expanded
Like antennae
First like a snail
And then like
My Favourite Martian
Then rabbit ears
All the way
To her sexy brain
And we fall
Just the two of us
Alone
Against the world
How did it get?
To this
The sweetest thing
The kiss
On a little secret
I like big nipples
Long and suckable
And I was wondering
As I do
What would happen?
If she was a Martian
And suddenly they expanded

First like a snail

Reap and Sow
My approach to death
Is not fully formulated
But goes something like this
It begins with a correction
Death’s approach to me
Might be more like it
Grim remains unamused
At my digression
After all
He has seen the best and worst
Of everything
How can a few scrawls compare?
To all those goings on
Carefully choreographed
With sickle and scythe
He the thin conductor
The speeding MC
On X and everything else
No expense spared
For the master’s apprentice
Don’t offer him virgins
He’s done with them
Don’t offer him...

1st Night
I so still & quiet
Like soft little mousy
She so quirky
And listens through hair
He so funny
Like friendly Gonzo
She so brown
And mind like rainbow
He with time
Plays with money
She so tall
Lips like honey
She so nice
And melancholy
He like salt
She so Ernest
And him so proper
And he like grape
All so clever
Like soft little mousy
She so quirky

Maybe
Maybe she’s all I’m not?
Maybe she’s all I can be?
Maybe she’s her and
Maybe she’s me?
Maybe she’s all I can be?
Maybe she’s her and
Maybe she’s me?

Going Things
And when you’re gone
I’ll have one less thing
And until all my other things go
I’ll have them
And when they’re all gone
I’ll have nothing
Which is at least a word?
I’ll have one less thing
And until all my other things go
I’ll have them
And when they’re all gone
I’ll have nothing
Which is at least a word?

Flowers
Today I looked for flowers
I had roses in mind
But all I found were poppies
My first thought was death
And then remembrance
But next came courage
And self sacrifice
And the eternal flame
And love and peace
I wanted to give you a flower
I wanted to give you a bunch
I wanted to fill your car
I wanted to fill your life
With flowers and colour and beauty
Then I realised that
God has already done it
And I’m no God
I’m hardly even a man
And you are lovelier than any garden
And I unworthy to weed around you
And yet my...

Take Me
Smear me
With your love sauce
Endear me
With your lucky charms
Harm me
With your wayward course
Fear me
And set your alarms
Drink me
With your thirsty mouth
Think me
Lower still further south
Taste me
With your tempting tongue
Waste me
Make me all undone
Share me
With no-one else
Entrap me
In your polony arms
And release me
To the enmity
Of a dying word
Aching to be free
With your love sauce
Endear me
With your lucky charms
Harm me
With your wayward course
Fear me
And set your alarms
Drink me
With your thirsty mouth
Think me
Lower still further south
Taste me

‘V’
Patiently waiting, I sit at the table, reading my book. I look out the window and question our love. Music plays. I have wine and garlic bread. Life is good. Then she comes; not my love, but the waitress - young and cute in black and white. She takes the elderly couple’s order and bends forward just enough to entice my eyes. So as to mess a little with my mind, knowing full well she’s out of reach. Untouchable - beyond dreams, but there none the less. No stockings; a slight slit in her short skirt; cut at the back, with a small upside-down ‘v’ pointing to heaven.
She comes over and...
She comes over and...

The Letter
And yes I smelled the paper
Of the letter that you wrote me
It started with a saying
That at first I couldn’t follow
But then I understood
Or thought I did
And it was you
Giving part of you to me
And every part is sacred
Vulnerable and true
I love beauty and
That’s all I see in you
Of the letter that you wrote me
It started with a saying
That at first I couldn’t follow
But then I understood
Or thought I did
And it was you
Giving part of you to me
And every part is sacred
Vulnerable and true
I love beauty and
That’s all I see in you
