Smoke and Mirrors
Big city, lost in the fumes
Corporate Bollocks spoken like a first language
Lost in the lies that management speak
Soul tarnished by loneliness
Forgotten in the city of Commerce
Surrounded by people but lost in bullshit
Close family too far away
Clouds descending quickly storm approaching
Thunder claps, lightening roars
Underground, lost and forgotten
Chug chug of the train on the tracks
Strangers pressed too close to bear
Romance a forgotten feeling
Emotions are stunted as London takes over
Grinding to a halt as it...

Deal me a good hand!
Do you gamble?” he said to me with a smile playing on his lips
He produces a coin like a magician out of what seems like thin air
The smile gets wider while the coin is slid under and over the fingers of one hand
He takes a step toward me and I find myself stepping back half a step
My personal space he approaches with ease invasion is nothing to this man
Smirking he leans forward and whispers quietly “Do you gamble?”
Smile slides from his face to be replaced by a leer
Quick look down my top for good measure, shivers escape involuntarily ...

Thames
Stood at the riverside on a so-so sunny day
Wind whipping at my hair and blinding me
Tears escape the corners of my eyes
They get blown away in the gale
Boats bobbing along on the water
Then the sound of air-horns and laughing
I watch the waves slapping at the banking wall
Buoys tossed about by the waves
One, two then a crowd of people pass me
Searching faces looking for someone familiar
Cold seeps though my clothing clinging to my bones
Shivers and teeth chattering while I'm on the lookout
Lost, angry and lonely surrounded by...
Wind whipping at my hair and blinding me

Liar Liar Pants on Fire
I overheard a conversation today, wasn’t eavesdropping or snooping.. Really!
You know those snippets you hear between tunes on your iPod that little bit of quiet
Turn off the volume hoping no one sees then I listen intently
Watching their faces light up as they gossip about some poor friend
Animated hands whipping this way and that the more excited they get
Their expressions change as they tell one another the tale of woe
Pursed lips, innuendo, pointing and the patting of arms when a lethal point sit struck home
I fear for this person, the...

Day old Laundry
Twisting in the wind left out to dry I hang there on one peg like yesterdays laundry
It’s always the day after the night before in my complicated life
Communication seems to have been cut but I listen out with open ears
There are hurt feelings but I know not for what
I brace myself for the onslaught of accusations being throwing
It smacks of double standards yet no commitments have been spoken
I feel guilty and apprehensive for my behaviour be it good or bad, knowing I have done no wrong
When I write it may be fact or merely my fantasy...

Surrender
What is going on in your head girl?
I question myself often on my choices, head tucked under the blanket on the sofa
Curled up in a ball trying to work out why, sit up lie down, pace the floor
The chemistry we have is so intoxicating, his lure I liken to the sirens call
I’m floundering on the beach trapped in the rocks desperately trying to get back to sea
Lighting my 3rd cigarette in as many minutes watching it glow red at the tip
Lungs burning and that sick feeling surfacing as I draw in the smoke
The date has arrived the time is fast approaching I still...

I walk you talk, I listen you preach
Compliments fall from your lips but don’t land at my feet
Twisting in the wind is where you like me to be
Where do I stand or would you rather I fall?
Coffee grounds stain the skin the colour of my soul
Watch me spin with insults thrown
Acrobatic nature is require when conversations are had
Simpleton is how you make me feel
I sit in saturnine venues waiting for the sun to shine once more
Watching you hold court is something to behold

Lights Flicker
Lights flicker off and on with every soul sucking station we pass though
Slithering down the tracks like a snake in the sand trying to find its prey
Only feet are visible from my seat, boots, sandals and impossibly high heels
A fat woman pressed up against Plexiglas with feeble attempts at trying to get away
Announcement of stations yet to appear float about our heads
Passengers look around with certain nervousness perspiration nearby
Sweaty crotches at eye and nose level, stale piss and stench too close
Looking up I’m met with underarms wearing that...

Sofa
Lying on the sofa in a bathrobe, TV for company playing softly
Ashtray on the coffee table with smoke swirling from a cigarette left to burn
Cold coffee in the mug on the floor forgotten hours ago its blackness staring back at me
Bath has been drawn and towels at the ready to wash away the grim
Do I sit here in my filth surrounded by day’s old dirty plates and cutlery?
Cleanse myself in the tub trying to wash all my sins away
Half a bottle of wine starting back at me sat on an amusing coaster
Wine glass lipstick stained surrounds the rim ...

They're all little boys you cant deny this fact
Never growing up the perpetual peter pan
