POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I'm just a cowboy. I've got some stories to tell and some scores to settle.
Children of Privilege on Mass Transit
Children are wonderful
If they are your own or you're related to them
However when on a New York City bus
All bets are off whether they are your own or not
Mass transit is about getting people places
It's not about Romper Room, babysitting or singing lessons
If you live here, you already are nodding in agreement
If you're just visiting , you're horrified
The little darlings use the bus experience
as a begging platform for everything they feel entitled too
Iphones, weekends in the Hamptons, pedicures, even for the dudes
Are...

Aftershave Redux
Splashing on aftershave
I used to wear years ago
When I was all about citrus
Sunny sky charm
Still love the scent
Feels different now
Like putting on an old fav shirt
Maybe a little tight but still with hope

Don't Let Technology Kill the Lemonade
Of all the things I hold dear
Lemonade is right near the top of the list
Sweet and tart
Like the way I love my women
I read my wife the first stanza
Ask her if it's brilliant
Very brilliant she says with a laugh
Then goes back to putting away laundry
We're addicted to technology
Even though it will kill us all
Pen and paper motherfucker
Squeeze the lemons before they squeeze you

We Get into Bed at Night
We both have physical jobs
By 11 or 11:30 we're spent
She gives our 15 year old puppy her meds
I watch her amazed by her humor and gentleness
We'll be married 26 years tomorrow
A lot of laughs and love
I always say the same thing about sleep
We're like cellphones needing to recharge
Sometimes we get close
Body on body, side by side
Old marrieds, touching, romancing, grateful
In the morning, coffee and conversation, then out the door

Forget Redemption, Pour Me Another Drink
The beauty of aging is often overlooked
Many spend their time lamenting past mistakes
Woulda, coulda, shoulda is a malaise of harm
Rather than regret, the mantra should be to celebrate
The celebration is the mind
Now rounded instead of channeling agnst
Wisdom comes easier now
You get that bonus for fighting all the fights
I've learned from my mistakes
Though challenges still abound
I'd be fine if I could just find my damn glasses
Screw redemption, pour me another drink

Intrude
Intruding
Demanding
Failing
Recoil
Waiting
You call my bluff
Return
Momentary
House of cards
Gale wind
Collapsing
Honesty within despair
The dance
Over and over
Same lies
Power line down
Demanding
Failing
Recoil
Waiting
You call my bluff
Return
Momentary
House of cards
Gale wind
Collapsing
Honesty within despair
The dance
Over and over
Same lies
Power line down

Around this Time
My Mom would have been 92 on September 4th
She passed in the autumn of 2014
Made a surprise visit on her 90th birthday
We had a corned beef sandwich together
Probably her last meal out
I tear up as I write this
It's a rough patch of time
in the days before her birthday
I'll feel better on September 5th
Marching on

I'm editing more now
You know when it doesn't read right
Returning to fix is half the fun
It's digital babe, no more white-out

Moody Silence
The milk in the coffee has curdled
Drinking it anyway
Too early for bourbon
Too late for love poems
Late summer air thick

Coffee, Love, Connection
Each morning
We share a cup of coffee together
She asks how much I want
It's usually a third, sometimes a half
Being a road salesman
Bathrooms are few and far between
It takes planning
Not rocket science, just math
Yesterday, no coffee date
Had an early morning doctor appointment
Felt incomplete
Wanting
Later in the day she texts me
Something about our dog
I tell her I missed our coffee together
It's morning again, our love, built in thirds .....

Women are Complicated, Men are Singular, Dogs are Spectacular
That's it
What more do you need to know ?
Dinner is at 8pm

After Morning Coffee
After the bitches brew
Things take shape
Clarity
Slipping into second gear
Approaching work
Paying bills
Kiss the wife goodbye
Daily grind
On the streets
Nodding to a neighbor
Bus down 2nd Avenue
Anything is possible
