POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I'm just a cowboy. I've got some stories to tell and some scores to settle.
Come to Me
Setting up the scenario
Separately we've both done this before
We know the strategy
We know the dance
It won't be long before we magically entwine
Waiting
Separately we've both done this before
We know the strategy
We know the dance
It won't be long before we magically entwine
Waiting

Poached Eggs
Runny and sublime
Over hash browns or toast
Bad for you the doctors say
Super satisfying
I feel better after eating eggs
Maternal perhaps

London my Love
Back 4 days
Miss it already
Civility
Not enough dogs though
Hung in Russell Square just to get a fix
A couple of dog waggers
The big attraction though was the ice cream truck
Had a tub with flake
Do the math
I love those Brits
They carry it
Miss it already

I'm in Your Town
Today I'm in your town
Tomorrow somebody else's
Road salesman
You have to see your people
Most visits, 15 minutes or less
Passing through your streets
I try to picture myself living there
I'm drawn to your commerce
A bar, a dry cleaner, restaurants
How would I fit in I wonder
Most of the times I'm just passing through
I'm a city bloke on the outskirts of your town
Show me where to have tea
Get a good sandwich
The park with the shady trees
Comfort in the unknown
Show me

Solemn and Reflective
Saturday Night
Early evening
Park mostly empty
Sitting on the park bench
Adjacent to where Ginger's ashes were strewn
Quiet
Skies clear but rain threatens later
I bring a magazine or two
Ancient reading forms
Things you never get to read during the week
This is my sanctuary
Solemn and Reflective
I come here often
Talk to a stranger or two
Watch people with their dogs
I miss Ginger so
These pretty flowers grow from her ashes
Energy transference
Grateful for this park
Natural beauty...

Glen Campbell RIP
Decency
Craft
Swagger
One of the sweetest voices ever
One of the reasons I became a cowboy
I feel this loss
Deeply

Wash em' Up
Every night at 6:45 my Dad would walk through the door
He had a hardware store one town over
He worked a long day
Came home, parked in the garage , went in the downstairs bathroom
Washed his hands with Lava soap to get the grime off
Came upstairs for dinner that my Mom had prepared
Even after he retired
Anytime hands had to be washed
He would always say "Wash em' Up"
In retirement though the soap got nicer
You remember these things
Grateful for the memory
Rituals of the past burned in and tidy
He was a good man
He had a hardware store one town over
He worked a long day
Came home, parked in the garage , went in the downstairs bathroom
Washed his hands with Lava soap to get the grime off
Came upstairs for dinner that my Mom had prepared
Even after he retired
Anytime hands had to be washed
He would always say "Wash em' Up"
In retirement though the soap got nicer
You remember these things
Grateful for the memory

August, Moody, Overcast
Just the way I like it
Everyone is somewhere else
I'm in an empty restaurant that should be jammed
The service sucks when it's slow
The help doesn't want to be there either
It's a languid and bittersweet day
Looks like rain
I'll take that too
Walk with me
We'll go for afternoon tea
Perhaps later a nap
Lazy day
Perfect

Will
Out with friends last night for dinner
They want to know if I'm still not drinking
I reply that I am not
They spend the rest of the happy hour teasing me
to have just one drink
WTF
They are relatively new friends
and have seen me in my not so dry times
It's understandable and harmless
Still it's slightly annoying
Anyone who knows me well
Knows my will
I'm hardly ever driven by other's patterns
Do what you want
Just don't get any on me
Listening to Jason Isbell's new album
This dude talks to...

Deep Thoughts on the Q Train
Beauty
Heat
Subterranean
This is my thought for the day
Riding the Q train downtown
Observing the woman across the way
Drinking from her fancy thermos
On this moist and humid day
The subway is beyond cool
The city is my urban wonder
Illicit thoughts clog my psyche
I wonder if I would get these thoughts in Omaha
Probably other thoughts
This place is my jungle
Spicy hot and always on the edge of something
Visceral comes to mind
Always

online scrabble
I play all the time
in between work and writing poems
I love competition
I love to win
Crush my opponent
Often that is not the case
Play with my regulars
We are evenly matched
Cat and mouse game
Win 2 lose 1
Win 3 lose 2
Lose 3 win 0
The beat goes on
A wonderful mind game
Memory booster too
When I beat my college professor friend
That's the best
Elite blue collar bloke that I am
Thrills me every time victory comes my way
in between work and writing poems

Crush my opponent

life isn't the same without my dog
It will be 4 months
Had to put her down on April 2nd
People ask me when I'm getting another
One day I say
The pain of losing her still too deep
She made me laugh often
Just by being Ginger
One day I say
Right now still in remembrance
Had to put her down on April 2nd
People ask me when I'm getting another
One day I say
The pain of losing her still too deep
She made me laugh often
Just by being Ginger
One day I say
Right now still in remembrance
