POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I'm just a cowboy. I've got some stories to tell and some scores to settle.
my days between stations
esoteric mind wanderings
somewhere and nowhere
done the heavy lifting
waiting ......
somewhere and nowhere
done the heavy lifting
waiting ......

Lying in Bed with You as the Radiator Clanks
Autumn cool early AM
Window open
Heat rising through these old radiators
Been clanking for years and years
A symphony of sorts though ambient comes to mind
We've been together many of those years
Intimacy is the bond of a working relationship
It never has to be questioned
Heat rising
Mine too

That Little Kiss
As we said goodbye
Soft and luxurious
Wishing there were more

We're Going to See Some Friends Who've Just Lost their Dog after a Long Life
There will be lots of drinking
Many tears too
Our dogs were both 16 plus
Long lives for big dogs
We're almost 6 months into the process
Only 3 weeks for them
We hardly ever see them
It's one of those phone call relationships
We'll go for an overnight this weekend
Help them process the raw
The grief does wane
Replaced by remembrance and sly smiles
Those dogs gave us laughter everday
Protection too
It's our turn to shield Robin and Patrick
We know too well what they feel
There will be lots of drinking and...

Thinking about using cash again, 10 days in London a few months ago, no cell phone there either
It's silent protest time
Cash might be my King again
Every credit card use is one hack closer to ruin
Cell phones are a black hole too
Don't think I'll have one when I pull the plug on my career
You wanna talk
It's gonna be on my land line
Sadly it's pushbutton
Would love to have my rotary back
Gotta make some concessions regretfully

Clutter is Sexy
My work desk is a mess
I hang clothes on my chair
I believe in organized chaos
Keeps me focused
Discussing it this morning with my wife
I suddenly proclaim that clutter is sexy
She laughs
She knows it's true
I hang clothes on my chair
I believe in organized chaos
Keeps me focused
Discussing it this morning with my wife
I suddenly proclaim that clutter is sexy
She laughs
She knows it's true

Gun Rights
I don't have any rights as a non-Gun Lover
When there is a mass shooting
People go out and buy more guns
I just buy bourbon
Glad I live in a city with tough gun laws
Gun people seem scared all the time of losing their rights
I dont have sympathy for someone who feels they need an AR-15
I'm just talking out loud
Maybe gun people should write more poems
Collecting pens and paper seems benign
No worries about poem registration

Between Two Worlds
Connecting but not locked in
A loner moves inbetween the lines
It takes courage to live outside the box
Comforted though by bits of human engagement
Dylan said it best
"To live outside the law you must be honest"
Somehow those words ring true for this cowboy
Dark streets on the edge of the industrial zone
A lone light leading to the halal cart
Chicken over rice in a whirlwind of scent
Maybe it's the spices and just enough conversation
Or just maybe, it's something else .....

Autumn Air
Autumn has arrived though it is still on the warm side. Last night in the early evening sitting by the open window, I caught the first whiff of autumn air. I asked my wife if she noticed that the air smelled different today and she confirmed it. I sit here now in the early morning as I always do. I get up at 6 even though I don't have to. I've always loved the morning, it's a family trait going back to my Grandpa Willy. He would get up at 4 and on weekends he would go to the bakery and buy fresh rolls and drive to each of his 3 daughters house and leave a bag on their door step. He was...

1/4 Cup of coffee
That's all I drink in the morning
My wife makes it
She's an expert in making great coffee
You only need a little to get a lot
We talk about our day coming up
I savor that quarter cup
Then we finish and start the work day
It's pretty perfect

Not Everything is a Pretty Sunset
Talk is cheap
You better be able to back it up
I've been without my dog for 5 months
She taught me humility you can't buy
Angst is still my undershirt
Trying though
I'll meet you half way
The rest is a karma float
Pick 'em up and put 'em down
A saying my Mom had to define work
Reflection calls me
Mourning my heroes
Black is part of the sunshine
You better be able to back it up
I've been without my dog for 5 months
She taught me humility you can't buy
Angst is still my undershirt
Trying though
I'll meet you half way
The rest is a karma float

Intimacy of Voice
You call out of the blue
We talk about stuff
Nothing remarkable
Just the everyday
Enough for me
Appreciative of the connection
Voice on the phone is so rare these days
To be cherished
We talk about stuff
Nothing remarkable
Just the everyday
Enough for me
Appreciative of the connection
Voice on the phone is so rare these days
To be cherished
