POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
My mother wrote poems when she was younger, mostly about love. Later she returned to poetry to express thoughts and desires that she'd squelched over time. She passed the torch to me (her daughter) when she entered treatment.
Loves from Mother's Past
Dear Lauryn,
I've been meaning to message you for some time now. I wanted to express my deepest condolences once again for the loss of your mother. I can only imagine how challenging the last seven months have been for you.
I wanted to share with you that I recently came across a photo of Janice with some friends that brought back a flood of memories. It reminded me of the wonderful times we shared together. Janice was truly an incredible woman, and I feel blessed to have been a part of her life. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine spirit are memories I’ll cherish always. ...

Diary entry - Smoking
Diary entry for Dec. 9, 2023
I can feel my baby growing inside me. She’s a constant reminder of the incredible journey I'm on. Joseph and I spent a quiet evening together, just enjoying each other's company. The love we share is so profound, and I find myself grateful for it every day.
I stopped smoking for the sake of my baby, and I know it was the right thing to do. Still, there are moments, especially after making love to Joseph, where I long for the comfort of a single cigarette. It's like a ghost from my past, whispering in my ear, tempting me to indulge just this once....

Journal Entry - If I Were
Dec. 7
As my head rested on his chest, I looked down across the span of Joseph’s body, so lean and firm. While listening to his breathing, I thought to myself...
If I were a painter, I’d paint him, dipping my brush in the hues of the emotions that swirled around us, creating a canvas that mirrored the depths of our love. Every stroke would be a testament to the beauty he shared with me.
If I were a sculptor, I'd sculpt him, molding him from the finest clay, shaping each contour to capture the essence of his being. The cool touch of the purest clay would...

When Creation Says It's Time
(Verse 1) In a darkened sky where stars align,
The universe gave us a love divine.
Guiding paths through the cosmic dance,
We found each other, a fateful chance.
(Chorus) Mother Nature tied us, a celestial tether,
We were one, so bound together.
But our love it was sacred dance, a tender rhyme,
Perhaps we will love again when creation says it’s time.
(Verse 2) As constellations whisper tales untold,
Our story written in stardust, pure and bold.
Yet, for now, we part with hopeful signs
The love we made as a temple...

Morning Song
Morning Song
Verse 1) In the quiet of the morning when the sky begins to glow,
I find pleasure in your laughter, and melodies as they flow.
Your voice, a gentle whisper, like a soothing, summer breeze,
It echoes through my heart and puts my mind at ease.
(Chorus) Oh, your laughter is a symphony that dances in the air,
Your words, they are a serenade, for love beyond compare.
On the canvas of your beauty, I find my favorite view,
In the sanctuary of your love, this time forever true.
(Verse 2) As daylight paints the canvas,...

A River
Not bound by rhythms or tethered by words,
our love is a river following the
contours of our shared existence,
a current that flows between us, ever growing.
Through peaks of joy and valley’s sorrow,
we found each other, fellow travelers of life,
each moment an uncharted future.
I pray our love will last.

Mosaic of Memories
In the mosaic of memories that haunt my heart,
each piece of canvas holds bold reds and silver
of my past excess.
In the dark cracks between colors my father
used me to break his vows to my mother.
When I came of age, I used that darkness to
destroy the trust of others.
Across this chaos of colors that is my life, your
steady hand appears and begins to arrange the pieces
to create patterns of love, intricate and warm.
Your eyes reflect my past and glisten with regret
at what I’ve lost, but still, you stay. ...

In My Womb
In my womb new life is formed
A heartbeat's tiny wish
One day I’ll die and she will mourn
Then bless me with her kiss

Love Transcends Beliefs
Based on this morning's journal entry:
Joseph asked me to attend church with him. I’d suspected Joseph held religious beliefs. The church he attended had a reputation for being liberal and even accepting of the diverse communities, so I went with him and enjoyed the beautiful music, incense, and thoughtful words of liturgy.
Afterward I told Joseph I was an atheist but enjoyed the service. Joseph’s response was one of kindness and understanding. He assured me that he wouldn't pass judgment on my beliefs. "Couples can learn from their...

In Her Girlish Wistful Gaze
In her girlish wistful gaze,
She now laments those fleeting days.
Youth's whispered echos, soft and clear,
Her innocence fades, replaced by fear.
Regret looms like clouds from her past,
Her youthful lust is all that lasts.

Single Piece of Light
Life is our single piece of light between two eternal spheres of darkness.
Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita
Our reckless behavior brought
new life into being.
Family bonds were broken on that night,
never to be mended.
But still, there is joy in new beginnings.
I touch my inconvenient bulge and asks,
“Dear child, what will you do with this,
our single piece of light?”

Lauryn's Date - Part 2
Their first kiss was tender and short. His face was kind in the soft glow of a single lamp in Lauren’s apartment. There wasn’t a second kiss.
Lauryn rose from the couch and stood by a window, her silhouette framed against the city lights. Joseph, nervously shuffling in the background, couldn't ignore the unspoken tension hanging in the air.
Lauryn knew the complexities that might overtake Joseph's life, especially considering the unexpected news about her pregnancy. Despite the allure of their connection, she understood the practicalities and unlikelihood of a long-term...
