The Mirror
A silent rap at the window,
He peers outside to see,
A beast standing in the snow…
What dark magic could this be?
He wipes away the frost that paints the window pane,
To get a better look at Satan’s bastard spawn
Who’s members were bound with an iron chain.
What a malevolent phenomenon.
The eyes of the beast were tinted red,
Stained with the blood of his foes
That he had mercilessly shed.
What a vicious master this creature follows.
Attached to his arms were the hands of a fiend,
Rough and jagged...

Paralysis
In the dark I lie awake
Dreaming of nightmares I cannot shake.
I feel a presence creeping over me
But I cannot turn my head to see.
Who is this faceless demon that turns my muscles to stone?
Only a few more seconds now...He will be gone.

Fate
Lurking in the shadows
He hears her voice
This divine articulation..whispering..
Whispering his darkest secrets.
How does she know?
Who is this Heavenly creature from the depths of his intimate purgatory?
Keep walking...keep walking…
In the distance he sees it..his secluded sanctuary
Just a few more strides across the snow-laden ground.
He stops, memorizing the intricacies of the landscape,
Breathing in the frigid air.
How does he know?
This Angel on his heels has lost her wings,
The dark...

Uncertainty
The innocence in laughter,
The experience in a tear.
The warmth of an embrace,
The chill of a goodbye.
The mystery in his smile,
The familiarity of his touch.
The sting of betrayal,
The contentment in repentance.
The ignorance in complacency,
The awareness in pain.
One will be my demise, the other my savior -- but which lie is more beautiful?

Myopia
Side by side we walked throughout the days of our youth,
Never a secret we kept, never a thought left unsaid.
You were my closest confidant, and I was yours.
Our souls were both fragmented, but together we were almost whole.
The age of adolescence ended and we went down separate paths,
I followed the hallowed halls of academia, but you were stuck in the past.
Perhaps I knew, deep inside,
That you could never leave the ground where your father died
But I had faith that you would make it out one day,
How was I to know beside him in...

The Epiphany
There’s beauty in deception and vileness in authenticity.
Your arms around me at night, the empty space next to me in the morning.
It was never your deception that shattered my inhibitions,
Never a fabrication, never a falsity that you uttered.
You were authentic from the beginning, never faltering.
What we had was a season of passion, unbridled and unashamed.
But seasons end, and the autumn of our love turned into the dead of winter.

The Vortex
On hallowed ground I walk, unphased by those who came before me
Unafraid of what lies ahead, terrified of the ghosts walking behind me.
Time is frozen, but the days keep going by
Maybe I’m just frozen, eclipsed by the beautiful lie
That every road leads to somewhere you’ve never been
But maybe this road is a vortex, banishing me back to where I’ve already been.
Humbled and proud, which will be my demise?
Am I too proud to look my weakness in the eyes?
Or will my insignificance cause me to fade
Into the dust where all my dreams are laid....
