White Sapphire
Somewhere in Toledo
is a trash can
and somewhere in it
is a ring
and somewhere in its band
is a promise I made that if I stopped feeling it
I’d tell you
so I’m sorry that I didn’t.
I used to imagine situations
of all the trips
we still planned to take together.
Ones where maybe
me dropping your stuff off at school
wouldn’t have been the last time I saw you.
