POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write poetry so dark feelings find their voice. Sometimes the result is pleasing, dark, ugly, or humorous. Writing is a good way to get the crap out.

Kill: The Game (Short Story #3 in series)
During the pandemic, business was slow for….we’ll call him Jason, though he uses a variety of aliases. To fight boredom, he created a game called “Kill.” As businesses began to open back up, he continued playing the game for entertainment.
The player draws cards from three stacks.
Stack one – location
Stack two – munitions
Stack three – clothing
Locations were random gps coordinates. Loads were the varieties he commonly used. Clothing cards were listings of random pieces of clothing that had to be worn and sometimes a general description of style....

Our Choices
At the overlapping of two circles, past and present,
we find, once again, young desires for the most secret pleasures.
To make a choice in these affairs is no casual act.
I chose to take your outstretched hand.
You chose to step toward your bedroom’s open door.
We entered with intention as clothing naturally fell away.
The only sounds were the clink of my belt buckle on your wooden floor
and the hum of life as your children played outside.
As curious adolescents, or desires brought simple pleasures,
but we’re...

Scars
The scar across my ribs is a part of who I am now. I’ll let it be!
The imperfection within that would have ended my life,
not easily found was easily corrected.
As we embrace, I no longer blush at the sight of scars, yours or mine, seen or unseen.
What joys are found in our imperfections as flawed flesh seeks flawed flesh?
Let our bodies join in celebration;
not of the everlasting, but in these temporal shared delights.

Dead Lover's Song
Absent eyes gaze at the sun,
the source of life and warmth.
Young lives so easily undone
from the flash of distant guns.
He folds upon the ground,
all ceasing, all loves releasing.
Young girl at home without a sound
touches her moist and precious mound.
She lusts for one already gone,
with visions of his return.
Not knowing how she’s been wronged,
she hums her dead lover’s song.
the source of life and warmth.
Young lives so easily undone
from the flash of distant guns.
He folds upon the ground,

Young girl at home without a sound
touches her moist and precious mound.
She lusts for one already gone,

Not knowing how she’s been wronged,

Unsent Letter to the Mother of a Lover
You let me date your daughter in high school. The first time I kissed her, I thought of you and how beautiful you were when I picked her up earlier that evening.
I’d always respected you as a teacher in our high school, knowing your divorce was devastating. We all thought that man did you wrong, but still you kept coming and teaching day after day. My friends said you sometimes stood close to the window of your classroom looking outside and they thought they saw tears.
I have mixed emotions about what happened on that first of many dates with your daughter. As...

Three Letters to First Ladies
Three letters to first ladies in my life…
1
I’m sorry for the unkind comment I made, not realizing you were sitting close. You didn’t acknowledge it, but I knew you heard, and I knew it hurt you.
Earlier, you told me you liked me, but I was unsure of my feelings at the time. You were quiet, shy, kind, and beautiful in ways my adolescent brain didn’t recognize yet. You were brave and I was the coward. Please forgive me. You wouldn’t be the only girl I hurt, but you are the one I still learn from every day.
