i've been writing since the ninth grade. Started out doing love and pain stuff. Switched to more inspirational and instructive words as i've gotten closer to 50. lots of my work is self therapeutic. Hope to help someone else.

This Man's Dilemma
I love my daughter
And I am a big man
She tells me "be careful"
Cuz my daughter wants her dad to live
I love my mother
And I am a proud man
She tells me "be safe"
Cuz my mother wants her firstborn to live
I love my woman
And I am a protective man
She tells me "watch out"
Cuz my woman wants her man to live
They tell me
don't show your true anger
don't let your lack of fear expose the cowardice they have
They tell me
don't walk without a smile
don't make them wonder if they might be...
And I am a big man

Coulda Been Prometheus
Coulda been Prometheus
Knowing the danger
Knowing the cost
Driven by need
To regain what was lost.
Neither death nor its promise
could place more fear in me than the thought of never again having you
Chain me to the rock where hungry vultures come to feast
The despair your loss brings
Is a more fearsome beast
Pain in the body can be overcome in due time
But nothing can save me from the tortures in my mind
Knowing the danger
Knowing the cost

When I saw you
I wanted you
I liked you
Lusted for you
Swore in my soul that I needed you
You felt for me
Then fell for me
And came to love me as I do you
I like you as much now
As I did when I first saw you
Yet now I appreciate that which I did not notice thru my lust clouded youthful vision
You cook for me
Better even than my grandmother
Who taught me the pleasures of real meals
You cling to me
Tighter than a weight belt during a 750 squat
Offering the same protection ...

Hungry Again
Back on Ashley Phosphate
Seeking more Salisbury steak on a plate
With onions and gravy and sweet tea and greens
Delicious, fulfilling
Soon my plate is clean
Some nights with bread pudding
On others,
Pork chops
They serve shrimp with grits
Spiced too perfect to stop
My friends like the salmon
And I guess that's nice
But my other favorite
Is turkey wings, cabbage, and rice

Lips by my ear
Telling me how much she loves me
Lips by my hands
Appreciating their strength
Kissing away the aches and tension that come often to all men who work
Lips by my shoulders
The barest brush from them lifts away the soreness that settles there from feeling the weight of the world
Lips by my back
Laying soft caresses on my skin and replenishing my power to stand straight and proud

sending chills across its surface
causing soft tremors in the muscles beneath

To this man
It's never " only money"
It's time
away from a loved one
or a favored hobby that I never have time foranymore
It's a sacrifice
for a loved one
It's a promise
to myself or a loved one
In my ability to "take bullshit" from a manager who can't whoop me, and isn't smarter than me, is the proof of my discipline to provide for those who look to me
Every dollar I earn
is two minutes I spent away from my loved ones
