i've been writing since the ninth grade. Started out doing love and pain stuff. Switched to more inspirational and instructive words as i've gotten closer to 50. lots of my work is self therapeutic. Hope to help someone else.

Civil, Not Civilised
I'm a civil man
I'm not civilized
Behind that word
The Wicked and Cowardly hide
I'll not ask another man
To do my dirty work
To strike blows
and be struck
Bear my pain and my hurt
If you touch me
I touch back
and I will not stop
Not seeking a saviour
Not calling no cops
I'll saddle my own horse
Gon stomp my own snakes
I'll handle my problems
Whatever it takes
I understand living
And I know what a life's worth
I'm a civil man
but if I dish it
I can take it ...
I'm not civilized
Behind that word

Value of a Dollar
100 pennies
10 dimes
20 nickels
4 quarters
2-50cent pieces
Or any combination of the above
or one Susan B. Anthony
or one Sacajawea
or one George Washington himself
I learned to count before entering school
Could recognize and name change pieces by age 6
Learned basic math before learning to read
Made it a point to demonstrate my number skills to all the adults in my life every chance I got
Then one day grandpa asked me if I knew the value of a dollar

The Birth of an Outlaw
Too old to start making waves
But seen too much to keep going along to just get along
This is the Birth of an Outlaw
Used to be a Rightie
Now I'm SouthPaw
And if you've seen the Shit that I saw
Then you too
Might be an Outlaw
You see,
They shot that little boy dead
(Tamir Rice)
No more Dr. Seuss
Or tucked in bed
Body in the streets
His blood is Red
"My Baby!!" is what his mama said
They killed that girl (Atatiana Jefferson) in her house ...

Callus on my Soul
Workn with my hands, leaves tough places on my hands after the blisters heal. This tough spot makes the next round of work hurt less, if at all.
Now a Callus on my Soul, comes after years of trying to rise, to elevate, to be at one with my Creator; yet banging, and rubbing, and scraping against a religion that does more to stifle my spirit than to bring me closer to the God who lovingly awakens me every day.

Entertaining and thrilling

The sight of you moves me
It calms and it soothes me
Sends flashes of fire
Like lightning right thru me
