POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Hi!
SCARED
A thought bulldozes its way in to my head
It bounces around inside, I get a feeling of dread
My palms start to feel sweaty, my fingers start to shake
I hear the pulse inside my head, my shoulders start to quake
My breathing starts to quicken, an ache in every breath
My brain starts to question, is this life or death?
I feel it hard to move, I’m rooted to the spot
Panic starts to grip me, my sight begins to fade
I feel I’m going to pass out, my nerves completely frayed
I’m not afraid of spiders and not afraid of snakes
I’m not...

Rosemary's Baby Burps And Farts
Away in a playroom, a crib for his bed
Rosemary’s baby laid down his sweet head
The stars on his mobile looked down where he sat
As baby smiled sweetly and eyed up the cat
The cat crept into his crib, crapped and crept back out
This cat, as cats go, was a bit of a lout
Creeping back he’d forgotten to steal the baby's breath
But baby’s breath smelled like nothing on earth
What have you been eating cat said with a meow
Your breath smells like the back end of a cow
Cat’s crap he had left was no...

GAY – (for my dear friend James)
GAY – (for my dear friend James)
There wasn't any other way
I told you dad, that I was gay
I knew you'd freak, I knew you pray
It’s not your fault, I was born this way
I know your anger questioned why
I know I made my mother cry
But I couldn't carry on the lies
With heterosexual alibis
You said it was a sad, sad day
Your family values gone astray
I couldn't, wouldn't try to obey
Your wish, I’d chose a different way
Still;
I'm glad you came to visit me
The sight of me makes most folk flee
There’s still no...

From - To
From mums apple dumplings
and childhood bumblings
to back seat fumbling
and pregnancy rumblings
from her ego’s humbling
to the gossip’s mumbling
From mother’s angel
to a boyfriends whore
from a family home
to sleeping on the floor
from a lover’s promise
to a the slamming of the door
from a soft toy collection
and sibling affection
to sex without protection
from an unwanted erection
from her wanton subjection
to ultimate rejection
from a ceramic doll
to a real child crying
from attempting to care...

ANGEL
He had the face of an angel
he smiled and winked his eyes
raised his eyebrows, gave a sigh
He had the face of an angel
A glowing light shone round his face
no darkness near him, not a trace
He had the face of an angel
He had a look of wisdom behind his eyes
no need for singing lullabyes
He had the face of an angel
I felt his heartbeat next to mine
I felt his breath, I saw him shine
He had the face of an angel
I held him tight, he didn't cry
Despite I knew this was goodbye
He had the face of an angel...

Bubble Rap
Wrap me up in bubble wrap
Tape it up with tape
Tape down any flapping flap
Let no flap escape
Mummify me head to toe
Holes to let me breath
making my excitement grow
inside my bubble weave
pop my bubbles soft or hard
nip to make them puff
slap me hard with no regard
it's time that you got rough
roll me roughly on the floor
punching as you go
bang me hard into the door
make those bubbles blow
popping all these bubbles
really gets me hot
don’t employ stunt doubles
I enjoy the lot

Lighthouses
Some people are lighthouses
Easy to spot but rare
They shine brightly
Their light is strong
They give good guidance
They hand out practical assistance
They can show people the way when they are lost
They are a shoulder to cry on
They are a buffer to vent at
They have an ear to listen
They show an empathy that’s real
They give comfort and support
They are honest and kind
They help whenever they are asked
They do not judge
They do not question
They do not point or wag their finger
They do not tut or raise their eyes upwards...

HATE
I hate haters who hate for no reason
I hate arrogant, ill mannered people
I hate ignorant and deliberately stupid people
I hate mentally delusional religious people
I hate politically correct, ribbon wearing people
I hate people
I have hatred for racists and racism
I have hatred for sectarians and sectarianism
I have hatred for sexists and sexism
I have hatred for communists and communism
I have hatred for theists and theism
I have hatred for isms
Hating all kinds of political liars is easy
Hating all kinds of bullies...

MUM
Looking inside
The box
I see
A grey haired
old woman
Looking back
at me
Looking serene, appearing demure
A look that hides the truth for sure
No more spirits, no more demons
No more shouting, no more screamings
Your peace, at last, finally assured
Your mental illness finally cured
I searched though all the madness
through pain, fear and sadness
of how you languished in your brain
just pretending to be insane
Insanity you chose as a means of escape
But memories still rape my mind
Off how you responded...

DAD
staring inside
the box
I see
a grey haired old man
staring back at me
you stared that stare a thousand times
the look of a poet who had no rhymes
you has so much anger, so much hate
which you took out on me at an alarming rate
strangely your hands always seemed enormous to me
big enough to beat a child but unwilling to set him free
if love equaled kicking and beating black and blue
you showed your love for me every day anew
what had I done to make you do the evil you did
why did you not allow me just to be a kid
I still...

The Liquid Garden
The evening sun modifies
Its push through tree tops,
Telegraph poles and wiring
The sun lacks the same passion
And violence of mid-day
Its light reflects sharply
On the greenery, but dances
Faintly on the bricks of the wall
The now, disco ball wall.
There is no Saturday Night Fever
Just a too loud sneeze
And a bit of a temperature
For this time of year
There is no bird song
No chorus, no solos
Just the occasional moan
Screeched by a passing seagull
And a disgruntled wood pigeon
Complaining about...
