In Passing
Sometimes, when I'm driving in the dark
the horizon glitters with so many stars
it feels like I'm trapped inside a giant snow globe
Sometimes, when you're not looking
I steal glances at your mouth
and imagine the sugar rush of
tasting your lips
Sometimes, when it all gets too much
I hold out til morning
cuddling 70 proof
Sometimes, when the rain lands
a few drops at a time
I wonder if He's disappointed
(or maybe it's just me who's a tad
overly-emotional)

Post-It Notes
I. Sit quietly and pretend your words of flattery
Were simply out of earshot,
Didn't make my too-easily-involved heart
Do the 100 yard dash,
For the sake of preserving
My sanity.
II. Maybe tonight when it's quiet,
And I've put away
The culminated public alternate,
I'll allow an
Overyly-emotional tear
To sum up
What lies inside
The cold, socially stunted girl
You've come to expect.
III. By the way,
She's really A-Number 1.

Ode to Beta
Lazy summer afternoons
Spent on the couch with a book,
Or the porch,
Or really anywhere
You could lay your head on my lap
So I could play with your hair
Talked about ice cubes
And margarita mix
And a kiddie pool
Lined with salt
While the fan
Hardly made a dent
In the hot, thick air
Windows open in the evening
(except for the rusted, painted over one)
The candle that smelled like
Freshly baked cookies
Sat on the coffee table
Pretended the kool-aid

The screaming died down
I found myself
Still in bed

And all I could think about was dancing

Ins and outs
