Queen
I'm just human
a simple woman
built of fair skin
with small rough hands
I don't know god
I never sought to
I prayed on my knees
but it was for my needs
I'm a sinner
and I'm a queen
see in my own brain
I'm so many things
I'm both gold
and I am dirt
I am happy
and I am hurt
I'm a castle
and the trash outside
flawed completely
by design
I'll keep going
cause I got to
on the days that
I don't want to
cause I'm a sinner
but I'm a queen ...

Caring too much about people hasn't worked out well for me,
just led to drinking too much and feeling like I can't breathe
Wondering why love is a punch to the gut
Am I hopeless, too open, or just in a rut?
Maybe its like my ex said, I'm just too much for one man,
but I keep thinking there has to be someone who'll understand

like I was never faithful
which is funny, you know why

I left the champagne bottle out
didn't cover the top with a paper towel
so it's flat as hell this morning
but I feel like drinking anyway
I know exactly what you'd say
as if you've never done the same
but that's the thing, your undoing
it's only okay whenever it's you
I don't know if you'll ever learn
or if you even want to see
you're so convinced you're right
that you just blamed it all on me
as if you are so much wiser
just because of the years you have
and I'm just some stupid kid
with the nerve to be born in '89...

I am wearing your old black shirt
I kept it on till it didn't hurt
get down and disassociate
separates the weak from the great
I can listen to our old songs,
I can even sing along
it's not exactly I miss you, but
I still notice you are gone
They said "honey, run for shelter
cause a cold fronts coming strong"
