Give Me Now your Kiss
Give me now your kiss
that swan’s wing beat,
that firebolt,
against the very source of me,
that loosens all my tethers to the earth.
Share with me now that lightninged rill
the fevering
that lies upon your lips,
that touching mine,
then burns me up,
that binds me,
captivates my will
to all your motions
and your secret purposes.
Give me now
your plighting kiss
and tie me to a purer notion of myself
than I have ever known before.
And I’ll return this molten kiss
with mine
to claim...
that swan’s wing beat,
that firebolt,
against the very source of me,
that loosens all my tethers to the earth.
Share with me now that lightninged rill
the fevering
that lies upon your lips,
that touching mine,
then burns me up,
that binds me,
captivates my will
to all your motions
and your secret purposes.
Give me now
your plighting kiss
and tie me to a purer notion of myself
than I have ever known before.
And I’ll return this molten kiss
with mine
to claim...

not voiced
Your name
will not be voiced by me today,
an anniversary of sorts.
I will not let my tongue
evoke its panoply.
Your name
will not be mouthed by me
from dawn
to dusk
and I’ll not let it touch my thoughts,
or fill my dreams,
now husks,
from darkened sun to morning’s rim;
the lust of it, your name,
that sin upon my lips,
caressing me,
all sere this dunning year,
if spoken out,
will do me in.
will not be voiced by me today,
an anniversary of sorts.
I will not let my tongue
evoke its panoply.
Your name
will not be mouthed by me
from dawn
to dusk
and I’ll not let it touch my thoughts,

all sere this dunning year,
if spoken out,
will do me in.

If You Wish It So
And if you wish it, oh
if you wish it so,
I will say your name to you
and say it in the way you want it said,
yes, softly, slowly, low.
if you wish it so,
I will say your name to you
and say it in the way you want it said,
yes, softly, slowly, low.

A Ditty for Pharaoh
A circling murder far above
grows grey and grim,
a gaping sinkhole in the sky.
The Nile’s blue tongue
becomes a bloody lash,
your cattle gaunt and thin
and stung
And why?
Because you’ve sinned,
because you never let us go
despite our cries to be released
from bonds of slavery
our god is angry now.
Listen! Hear! the tolling bell
that he has rung.
it’s the destroyer’s knell for you --
the final round’s begun.
And look, kohl eyes,
you chrome-domed son of Ra,
our god...
grows grey and grim,
a gaping sinkhole in the sky.
The Nile’s blue tongue
becomes a bloody lash,
your cattle gaunt and thin
and stung
And why?
Because you’ve sinned,
because you never let us go
despite our cries to be released
from bonds of slavery
our god is angry now.
Listen! Hear! the tolling bell
that he has rung.
it’s the destroyer’s knell for you --
the final round’s begun.
And look, kohl eyes,
you chrome-domed son of Ra,
our god...

Your Master
Within my arms
you will find sheltering
as long as you take up
my cue to say,
“Keep me,
keep me here.
Keep me naked,
flesh warmed,
wet,
my body vicious,
live, awake,
with hungering.
I have no peace
until I am enclosed,
bound up,
a flame,
a rage,
in your embrace.
Keep me so that I
might place my lips
upon your neck
your eyes,
your waiting mouth,
the whole of you
and every pulsing place
where they belong.
you will find sheltering
as long as you take up
my cue to say,
“Keep me,
keep me here.
Keep me naked,
flesh warmed,
wet,
my body vicious,
live, awake,
with hungering.

Not Soon Enough
Your voice – so many miles away.
Six days until it’s next my ear.
Not soon enough.
Five days until we’re arm entwined
not soon enough
Four days until we kiss hello:
not soon enough,
not soon enough.
And all those stretching, empty hours
until we’re centered
in the gentle exploration of ourselves
that we’ve been longing for!
I say again, that, oh, until you’re here
until I know the rest
you promised you would bring to me,
my sleep is thin and ragged,
rough.
Not soon enough.
Six days until it’s next my ear.
Not soon enough.
Five days until we’re arm entwined
not soon enough
Four days until we kiss hello:
not soon enough,
not soon enough.
And all those stretching, empty hours

Touch
Your touch
creates a shuddered thrill
inside the weeping shell of me.
Your fingertips become my centering.
creates a shuddered thrill
inside the weeping shell of me.
Your fingertips become my centering.

All This to Have
All this to have:
a waiting hand to hold,
a fire lit embrace, a fondling smile,
a cradled traced caress along my cheek,
a low enfolding voice.
the havening of supple, yearning arms.
a tempting scent to lull and bask within,
a thrumming curve of neck and back and thigh
to touch, to thrill,
when, after sunset,
stillness billows out its hushes in the dark,
and sails its velvet courses through the night.
a waiting hand to hold,
a fire lit embrace, a fondling smile,
a cradled traced caress along my cheek,

There is Within Your Eyes
There is within your eyes a certain light --
a glimmer sparkling like a comet’s trail
within the growing darkness of a Summer’s velvet dusk,
the sapphire star that graces clear-skied evensong
and calls the postulant to prayer,
the warming gleam of crescent dancing candle flames
within the alcove of a darkened room
that animate and golden glow the night.
It is now hushing me.
It makes me still and gladly powerless
and soars me through the spinning heaven’s heights.
a glimmer sparkling like a comet’s trail
within the growing darkness of a Summer’s velvet dusk,
the sapphire star that graces clear-skied evensong
and calls the postulant to prayer,
the warming gleam of crescent dancing candle flames
within the alcove of a darkened room

Your Eyes
Your eyes, your eyes!
The stars are jealous of your eyes.
They know, you see,
that when you turn to look at me
their light is dulled
and grey as dust,
their courses in the heavens stayed.
They are because of you
no longer safe
or bright
within their skies.
The stars are jealous of your eyes.
They know, you see,
that when you turn to look at me
their light is dulled
and grey as dust,
their courses in the heavens stayed.
They are because of you
no longer safe
or bright
within their skies.

One God?
It seems to me that it’s more true
to say that what I see
and what I take to heart away
from any of the beauties that creation holds,
and day by day unfolds before my eyes
within the panoply
of all the realms
above, below, and here
within the bounded world --
in moon and stars and sun,
in comets’ whirls, in oceans’ depths
in cloud banks’ swirls,
and verdant plains and forests
on the earth,
in mountains’ awesome majesty
in graceful movements of sleek animals
too numerous to name --
belong in...
to say that what I see
and what I take to heart away
from any of the beauties that creation holds,
and day by day unfolds before my eyes
within the panoply
of all the realms
above, below, and here
within the bounded world --
in moon and stars and sun,
in comets’ whirls, in oceans’ depths

in graceful movements of sleek animals

Because of you
I can imagine now
as we, together, stand above
a rippling watercourse at night,
my eyes full filled with gazing at
the way your hair cascades
in evening’s languished shades
around your face
how you,
as I recount, low voiced,
(because you’ve asked of them),
the stories of the scars upon my heart,
reach out
to touch my chest
and then to cup my face,
intent to stroke away the ghosts of pain
still lingering, locked up inside of me,
to say,
to say, that I should know ...
as we, together, stand above
a rippling watercourse at night,
my eyes full filled with gazing at
the way your hair cascades
in evening’s languished shades
around your face
how you,
as I recount, low voiced,
(because you’ve asked of them),
the stories of the scars upon my heart,
reach out
to touch my chest
and then to cup my face,
intent to stroke away the ghosts of pain
still lingering, locked up inside of me,
to say,
to say, that I should know ...
