Dear Black Woman
Dear black woman,
I envy your strength
I salute your courage
I honor your selflessness
I commend your confidence
I admire your boldness
Every shade has a story
Every scar rises in honor
Glorifying your pigmentation
And not your curves or kinky hairstyles
A woman of class and elegance
Intimidated by your aesthetic value
And despite of all your setbacks
You always find a way to fight back
A natural warrior
Who’s worth should never be measured by the pain she endure

Blind Silence
Whether it’s my blood glistening on the street,
Or a knee dug into me,
My life doesn’t matter,
My skin color is still considered a crime,
And now here we are again protesting for one’s life,
Another brother who could not breathe,
Leaving our community to suffer and grieve,
While so called heroes continue to kill in groups of 3, maybe 4, 5, or 9?
It took flames to become louder than our screams,
I think you would light a match too,
These fires have now become our voices,
This could be my brother, my mother, or a cousin,
Don’t...

The Battle Between Faith & Doubt
There are days I just sit back
Sit back and stare into the light
The light that was once dark
Once dark as my heart
But soon enough, people surrounding me mentally and physically fell apart including me
My mind was telling me one thing and my spirit was telling me another
God told me something like no other
He told me that I had potential
Potential to grow
Potential to demonstrate him
Potential to overcome this spiritual warfare
And then here’s Satan ..
Telling me that God won’t hear my cries
That God will never see...
Sit back and stare into the light

Suffocating by You
As I sit on a rock listening to nature,
I begin thinking about what we could’ve been,
Our laughs, our disagreements, our painful memories,
You were like my best friend that I hardly knew,
You didn’t give me enough time to find me,
And I didn’t give you enough time to find you,
We were two broken individuals that collided,
Seeking any soul to vibe with,
But you knew how to keep me smiling,
Saying everything to uplift me from the ground,
Then you held me right above a waterfall overwhelmed, drowning in water
I felt like a...

A Beautiful Storm
She is decaying,
Yet she is still trying to bloom,
She is falling,
Yet she is still trying to stand,
She is frowning,
Yet she is still trying to smile,
Although her stem is curved and her leaves are broken,
Does not mean she will always remain in pain,
God will provide her the nutrients she needs to remove that stain in her heart and allow her to reach that storm that once tore her apart,
Many assumed she would never grow,

Dear Men
Dear Men,
Y’all gotta do better. The money, weed, and sex doesn’t matter. Y’all so worried about a woman’s body instead of her mentality. In reality, the girl has no self respect for herself or for you while you’re damaging the girl who had a weak spot for you. No, she’s not temporary or there for pleasure, instead she’s offering nothing but love and affection while you continue to do you. This cycle continues to repeat, losing your dignity and creating more insecurities. You’re happy while she’s crying and screaming. She’s getting mistreated while you’re building your self esteem....

Dear Ladies
Dear Ladies,
Stop allowing men to lead us towards a future while abandoning us in our presence. Don’t lose your senses while waiting for a man to come to his own. Until a man can look beyond the surface of a woman, he will never know the difference between love and lust, pretty and beautiful, God’s word vs. his own. We must heal ourselves before trying to heal someone else. Yeah it’s bittersweet, but ask him “Why couldn’t you be the man I need”? Wait for his response & then tell yourself “Maybe he wasn’t meant for me”. He’ll understand after you settle down that no scale can...

Jump
A plane can’t land until the coast is clear. Our blessings won’t land because of those we’re flying with. There’s too much sin preventing us from landing safely. Sometimes we may have to jump early, though we think we’re far from landing, we don’t realize that our blessings are always our parachute. They were just waiting for us to make that jump. Jumping doesn’t make you weak, it makes you stronger. Some just fly to wait until the plane crashes, while others are waiting until the captain says jump. I Finally Left
Low class, middle class, high class
Living in a neighborhood that doesn’t speak
Abandoned houses on every street
No love, no water, no heat
Felt like I inhale poison every time I try to leave
And the emergency team wouldn’t even come save me
Because I was just a black girl living in poverty
Drugs, alcohol, and sex
You wouldn’t believe what came next
That girl who was finally set free, was me
Seeking to get a master’s degree to take care of her family
Who would’ve ever thought that would’ve been me

His Intent
He looked into my eyes as if he knew what I been through,
He knew I was a flower that was stepped on repeatedly,
He knew I needed room to grow,
And he knew he carried enough water and nutrients to let it flow through my veins, through to my heart, and into my soul
He knew ways I could blossom and granted me enough energy to stand on my own,
But he knew I was a rare flower that was fragile, whom thought she would never grow,
And yet, he still picked me,
And has now allowed me to stand on my own
From that moment, I knew he was a rare flower too..
