Cobalt Blue
Starry Starry Night
how hard you fuel
their fiery soul;
blue-black backdrop
a feathered crow
glimmering in the moon;
One hundred thousand
million stars, unspooled
amid a fabric bolt
of endless cobalt blue
Starry Starry Night
how your brush
ensnaring space ...

Letters to a Young Poet(ess) III

Dearest Duende,
I am writing amidst a beautiful view of the blue ridge mountains; I'll enclose a post card so you may enjoy the same while reading. Currently a hint of change permeates the trees, as though whispering vibrations of color they will cyclically attract: golden ocher, burnt sienna, cadmium lemon, raw umber, alizerin crimson. Soon they will don Joseph's coat of many colors quilted as far as the eye can see - before releasing slowly,...

The Great Divide
There is a Great Divide
defined differently
by each personality;
it can be seen as black
or perhaps Palestinian
So narrow the Divide
it can close unto death
before widening
to accept difference;
wearies of itself;
loses short-term memory
Remembers younger days
playground antics
void of color and race
Sometimes it stands guard
to the entry
of the heart;
where it doesn't stand

Letters to a Young Poet(ess) II

Dear Younger Poetess,
These mountains are beginning to herald autumn. Soon they will sing in a cacophony of color that resembles the pure essence of poetry. I am enjoying a view of distant storms from my veranda while sipping evening tea. I just finished reading your poetry.
I read between the lines of your verses, where resides meaning within the space of breath. Where there is joy, there is also pain; where there is longing, there is...

Fairytale
Prelude
It wasn't always so
this certainty in doubt;
but, a black sun of shadow
content in one's own lot
Chapter 1
Once upon a Time
a toad discovered me
amidst a pond of poem
absorbed in imagery;
perched upon a lily pad
waiting for the frog
that rejected transformation
into some Prince of court
Because royalty, you see
wasn't what I sought
( nor golden riches of wealth
in a kingdom amid the wood )
But,...

Letters to a Young Poet(ess) I

Dearest Poppy,
I received your letter just yesterday. I must admit my heart sank when I became aware of your feelings. Especially in light of such a deep accompaniment of expression, obviously demonstrating great depth of emotion.
Perhaps such emotion is reaching up from the quagmire of doubt toward the rung of growth. While you may feel you're in a rut, the enclosed poem contradicts that thought with hard evidence to the contrary....

Boneyard
Transformed are faces
harbored bodies
amid an airborn boneyard
Its altitude of steel
depressurizing
passengers into corpses;
sleeping beauties
deep in demise
The Unknown--
its heaving ocean
depositing metal crumbs
that can never be followed

Hourglass
When negativity senses
vibrations of sand
escaping the hour glass--
it hastens advancement;
Granules become barbs
malformed reminders
puncturing the calender
of its personal agenda;
their swollen restiveness
a relentless testament
of deflated attempts
Artists tumble ahead
despite resistance
Because. . .
Wisdom survives history:
suffering maltreatment
forgoing vengeance
patiently awaiting
that final grain
to drop thru
the pass
delivering Us
from...

Wintertide
Space between moments
are seconds; nothing
lasts forever --
not even fulfilled promises
Natural tattoos of experience:
crows feet, laugh lines
thin skin, turkey neck --
consume age, eventually
Life's Wintertide
is chronologically clocked
by man-made increments
Skeletal bones of leaf
closeted in half light
rattle from spindly limbs
Our elephantine steps
invade a pristine landscape
disintegrate delicate hoar frost
under...

To a Sociopath
All Sociopaths and Psychopaths are narcissists
although the converse is not true of narcissists."
What a childhood
you must have experienced;
or, could it be inherent --
this insatiable need for dramatics
Perhaps you were made fun of
or an outcast growing up --
betrayal and physical abuse
replaced trust with a need for control
Maybe a mutant gene

Conception
I don't know how to pen Love
I thought I did;
took Words by the balls --
wrote them wearing red
Stared down each molten eye
bathed in breath and spit;
their tinged ivory horns
ancient as old teeth
Rode Passion bareback
embedded nails in its skin;
dared Adventure into the wild
threw Fear over a ledge
I didn't care about a broken neck --
becoming trampled, gutted, or gouged;
on the contrary --
Death was the furthest planet of star
orbiting this lonely...

)O( Totality
Lunar plum, umbra'd poppy
sunset's bloodshot eye;
port wine features beckon
our sleeping inner child
God of War advances –
blazing lesser distance
shields our solar plexus
defensively resistant
Mercurius stations --
courting retrograde;
consort Larunda flushes
orange to marigold red
This isolated collective
such combative energy
merges now with Creation --
One Blood-born totality
Reveling in completion
until veins bleed luminesce
stiffling...
