I'm sorry to be the one breaking the bad news, but the dude who started the thread 444 days ago was last on DU 402 days ago... that means he's most likely been abducted and anal probed by aliens... and probably won't be coming back to DU to help you all become better poets.

My suggestion to the poets who think they "need to perfect their craft", go buy some booze and drugs, or perhaps some tissues and vaseline for those erotic poets, and go learn to write poetry the hard way, by writing poems, enter comps and post your poetry on DU.  Read the damn fine poetry you can find here on DU, someone you admire.

If you just want to write poetry because it makes you feel good and are satisfied to hopefully improve along the way, then you can also do it the hard way, as I mentioned above, but without the booze, drugs and the vaseline.  Keep the tissues handy though, sometimes poets cry.

I think the way to perfect ones craft is to keep writing. Shakespeare had no teacher but kept writing. The first poet ever had no teacher but perfected his work by writting continually.

And reading other renowned poets works. This has helped me for the past year.

Just a thought though....
