How much do you edit your work before you post it?

It was somewhat tongue in cheek ;

That is why it is in a rhyme form...

And sure , you can call it shitty...that I have no problem with...;)

But I do see with that mind frame to a large degree about anything ;

This is difficult to explain to others , yet I shall try...

There is a concept in Qabalah of receiving information Purely , Semi

Purely , Not So Purely , Poorly ;

Four worlds , with layers of meaning for each ;

If one has worked hard , or was naturally born

with ability , one has a direct channel to the "crown"

or "source" , or spirit world above...

The other lower progressive realms have more interference

and fragmentation of information...breakdown of structure ,

integrity , and clarity ;

Thus more "editing" necessary in one's life...not just poetry...

So ( to me , and yes we are all different , and believe differently )

I give more credit to the one who has achieved a direct connection

to spirit and their Muse , and less to one who must edit...

So , yeah...you can call that shitty if you want...;)

I don't agree...that is okay...but there is a method to my madness !

poet Anonymous

i edited to take the shitty part out, even before you replied. sorry for that. i shouldn't have said it.

so (actual question, not challenging you at this point), how do you know who to give praise to and who not to? you have no idea who edits and who doesn't. unless they specifically said "i have not edited this poem at all" and you can take them at their word.

Well , I normally do not go running around trying to figure that out...lol ! ( smiles )

( and , no problem about the comment , I realize it could have sounded shitty )

I only brought this up , because we are in a "gentle" , "sharing" dialogue about

editing ;

I do tend to believe someone if they say they don't edit , as whether any believe

me , or not , I have edited maybe 10 times out of 270 new poems in past 3 months...

( not ten poems , 10 times total edits ) And that is a high estimate ;

I edit more in forum , and even that is limited...;)

I do't feel I "praise" people , but I do compliment them on what I see is a good poem...

Now if we were having a conversation in real life about editing , I might offer them

techniques to clear the channel , and tune in to frequencies better ;

That I have been doing 24 + years...hope that helps !

For instance , just to offer :

To open and maintain a clear channel to spirit and one's Muse ,

one of the most potent images for meditation is the Star card

of the Major Arcana of the Tarot , with all accompanying sigils ,

and colors , and incense , yet , adding doing this in moonlight ,

and holding the image in the back of your brain ( accomplished

by reiteration and repetition ) for at least an hour , does wonders

over time...that is only a start to opening fully , but is an excellent

beginning of a mental programming technique...;)

Edits are the sign of someone who comprehends that poetry can be improved.

Most poetry, even published poetry, can be improved.

I too have gone back to very old poems and made changes. Writing is art, and as such, I will sit and stare at it until I hate it. Or change it so much that it no longer resembles the original piece. 1 out of 1000 I will be happy with a piece on the first go :P

I usually put my ink to cursive and then tweak it while I type and create a PDF and then copy and paste here in the Deep and then tweak it some more ---- edit for spacing and thought ------edit the title --- look for syntax and punctuation and spelling errors --- and sometimes even I just delete and start over.

Sometimes not as diligently as it should be, creativity sometimes needs someone just to do some "vanity editing" but it's all good. Excellent question.

Tallen... you are a writer after me own heart...
most people don't seem to give-a-damn...
what they throw in front of their readers
All those little things you mentioned...spelling, syntax... all the rest
are ever so important... you show your readers some respect...

How can a person take a half-finished, messy, piece that the writer doesn't care enough about to clean up just a wee bit and present it as a finished work, I fail to understand...
guess they got no self-respect... there's none shown to the reader. (end-of-rant) Ely

Far, far too much, I'm afraid. To where little of what I've started manages to get finished. :/ I believe editing is certainly useful, helpful in it's own way. I enjoy the idea of doing so, after having written a poem out in rough form. My problem is doing it while writing.

I like to edit as I go. I try to be big on word play and vocabulary.

I try at times just to get something down and out. Not think to much about it or worry that it has to be perfect or even completely finished. Just a short closed thing. Just put words down, small enclosed pieces, that expresses something and send it off. It's more an exercise or daring to create and share instead of letting fear inhibit. And you can always edit something a bit later. Or even remove it. But write and put it out there. Write.
